Having real issues with windows 8

Hi Guys

I had windows 7 and then bought the upgrade to 8
I've had nothing but issues to be frank, i've already had to repair and refresh the system two or three times which is a nightmare when i have to re-download stuff particularly with such awful D/L speeds where i live :(

Recently i've been trying to get into litecoin mining (holding out for the price to rise) and it keeps telling me that windows has detected a problem
But i can live with that...

So anyway, I had my CPU oced to 4GHz
But erring on the side of caution i dropped it down to 3.8GHz.

Then i tried to load up my recently downloaded Bioshock infinite, and that decided that it didn't fancy working either... And i got the same message saying that windows was trying to fix the problem and shuts everything down

I'm a little bit lost as I have been using Mac OSX pretty consistently for about 5 years until about 4 months ago, where i wanted to get into PC gaming so built this rig.

Sorry if this is all jumbled, just annoying when you spend your money and its the software that seems to let you down.
I tried to change the motherboard too (got myself the MSI 990XA-GD55 recently, which is Windows 8 ready) So i covered that (updated all the BIOS and all the rest of it)

Thanks guys :)

Your first problem was upgrading to windows 8 dude. W7 is heavily supported while W8 is not. Seeing as the problem appeared only in 8 then that just makes things more complicated seeing as it's still very young and not many people have it or have expierence with it.

Which in turn means drivers are unsupported and have many bugs which therefore causes instability and problems.

If you can as much as you won't want to... Downgrade(i would consider it Upgrade IMO) and go back to W7 and restart downloading etc etc.

Nightmare.

Any easy way to go back particularly now i've wiped the HD with the whole repair thing ? Or would it be best to get a new copy

People need to stop blaming Windows 8, there is nothing wrong with Windows 8 and everything works with it. When it was first released, as with any new OS, drivers were not updated for it but that is not the case now.

I use Windows 8 and have done since release and I have not had one single problem. I've also got Bioshock Infinate and had no problems what so ever with it.

The problem must lie in your setup, either something is not configured properly or there is a hardware problem.
I notice that you have a SSD, do you have AHCI enabled in the BIOS? That could be causing you problems if you don't.

People don't have to stop balming windows 8 if they don't want to lol.
Many people have had problems with it compared to very few who haven't. Which is why it's so poorly looked at.
Edit: OP don't you have a copy of W7 already before the upgrade?

hahah i'll have to do some digging ;) knowing my luck its in a box. under a box. under a pile of crap in the loft ;)

Will the code still work then ?

I would be pretty sure it would. Check online if it can. It won't be genuine until you call customer support and then tell them it's a reinstall.

It's all complete BS by people who have not used Windows 8 and talk shit about things they know nothing about. The same small mined people who can't see past the start screen and write the whole OS off because of it.

Windows 8 isn't even a new OS, it's just a highly streamlined version of Windows 7 with UI and optimization changes. So saying Windows 8 doesn't work and telling people to go back to Windows 7 is no right. If it works with Windows 7, it will work with Windows 8.

The problem is either with hardware, or something is not set up right.

okay. Just looked it up. Tom's Hardware has a thread that says that there shouldn't be a problem if its on the same PC

I don't want to get into a fight with 7 vs. 8 or whatever. because, like i said, i've been on the mac side for some time now. I'm just looking for something that will work so i can play games and do a bit of crypto coin mining ;)

Not true... That's like saying a Halo game will work in a PS3... Many games have issues trying to get it to run.

OP since the problem occured when 8 was installed just go back to 7 if you perfer it over 8. Other than that you may have installed something wrong etc.

I'm not trying to start an OS war but the problem is not with Windows 8, if it was Windows 8 then everybody would have the same problem.
I know from first hand experience that Bioshock Infinite runs perfect on Windows 8.

Make sure your video card drivers are up to date and all your motherborad drivers all installed.
Also enable AHCI in the BIOS if it's not enabled already.

Download and install NET frame work 3.5
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=21

Also make sure DirectX is up to date

Also Visual C++
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2019667

Also install Nvidia PhysX, you need to install it for some games to work, including Bioshock Infinate, even if you have an AMD GPU.

i'll do all that tomorrow. and then i'll get back to you. Gotta get some sleep. Need to actually get up and do some revision for my a levels next week ;)

Cheers guys

What?

PC games run on DirectX, which all versions of Windows use. PC games are not like console games where they only work on one console. The only games that don't work on modern versions of Windows are DOS games. And even with those all you need is a DOS emulator.

There are no games for PC that will not run on any version of Windows past Windows XP, unless they are DX10 or DX11 only which you will need at least Windows Vista for because Windows XP and before it only support up to DX9.

You didn't get the analogy...
