Hard Drive

Alright people!

Right, I need a good reliable hard drive.

Minimum of a 160GB and no more than 250GB.

Price up to ideally £45-50 - INC VAT and P+P

SATA I/II - Good in performance etc

I want a reliable HDD, preferably not a Seagate again, I've had some bad runnings.

Are the new Western Digitals any good?

Thanks in advance.

Hmm. Seagate`s aside, my preference is usually to look through Scan`s Today section and see what`s up.

Atm: 250 Gb Western Digital WD2500YS Caviar RE, SATA300, 7200 rpm, 16MB Cache, 8.7 ms £37.95 ex £44.59 inc

Tbh, limiting u`rsellf to 250g... a slither under £50 and u got 320g.. but u can step up like that all the time. Don`t forget they charge postage too I`m sure.

Im rather fond of the spinpoint in my family PC. Its very, very quiet.

I myself have a few maxtors, not the quietest but (as long as you don't blow them up  ) then they're good and fast.

Heard nice things about the Spinpoint drives, unfortuately cannot comment on them myself as I do not own any. I have 2x Maxtor 320gb sata drives, and I really do not like them. It's the only hard drives I've had that had overheated to the point of making the machine BSOD, they (or at least mine) tend to run very hot and need a fan on them.

Might not be true about newer Maxtor stuff, since Seagate bought them out.
