Hard drive failure?

Hi guys,

Quick check please. My normal build.

PC powers up, fans spin and motherboard lights light up. Video card fan spins. Monitor doesn't power on. Mouse doesn't power on. (Can't tell with keyboard.) Hard drive activity light on case doesn't come on. I also can't hear the C drive spinning up. (It's an old raptor.)

I'm guessing hard drive failure at this point.

What do you think it might be too? I checked Sata connections, etc. Yesterday it was fine.

Cheers.

I think you should still get display even if your HDD fails, try Disconnecting the HDD then power up, you should get a non system disk error or something like that.

re-seat the gpu and ram, re-seat all the power cables for mobo and gpu, turn it off and hold the power switch for a couple of seconds and turn it on again, it might help.

I'm sorry! The monitor has power, but then powers down into energy saving mode. The same as it would if the video card wasn't connected properly. ie. No signal from the PC.

Do as Maniac says, if that fails then try resetting the BIOS, your PC should still post without HDD.

Yeah, it should still post.. I haven't slept for a while working on my bosses old laptop.Woke up to find that mine doesn't work now. Your ideas were good, both of you. You mentioned resetting the BIOS. Cheers. I pulled the battery out on the motherboard and put it back in. That seemed to do the trick. Now the system posts and comes to life. I'll pop to the store and get a new cmos battery in case that was the main reason.
Thanks guys. I appreciate the support.
:)
