Definitely need a 4mm socket as it is a terrible job if you have to use pliers to get the bolts out.
I had to do 4 cards, for the first 2 I used pliers which was horrible, for the third I used a 4mm spanner I borrowed from work and for the last one I used a 4mm socket which was easy.
The problem with pliers is you have to be very careful not to damage anything on the back of the PCB. A spanner is better but you still have to be careful. The 4mm socket is very easy to use.
Going forward I think we are going to see a lot more cards like this from NVidia so for anyone removing the coolers a lot a 4mm socket is a cheap but good buy.
