Guitar into stereo AMP.

Hiya guys! :)

I am getting a Warlock Guitar soon and I wanted to know if you can feed it into a stereo amp.. instead of buying a guitar amp.

I am thinking at this moment no.. because I have read the peak output of any guitar pick up is about 1.2v.

Which is quite alot for a input to a stereo amp.

Anyone have any ideas or experience? Thanks! :)

Ok lemme try and explain quickly....

* Level mismatch. If your guitar produces a quiet signal, there will be more background hiss than there should be.

* Blowing a speaker. Possible from playing guitar directly into the stereo too aggressively without compression or distortion. It's all one narrow frequency band, which, when clipping, can blow a tweeter of your high-fi speaker. A compressor would protect the speaker.

* A stereo has the wrong input impedance. Your guitar will likely lose some high treble. A guitar pedal that does not have true bypass will be good as a buffer to preserve the high treble.

You can play your guitar direct...but I wouldn't

I had a crappy electric guitar for goofing around. Plugged it into the SBLive!

How do you do that, Rast?

Microphone input or something?

I have a Creative X-FI now though I do still have the LIVE in my second PC.. :)

@ Mandible - Thanks mate! It sure is good looking.. :D

Something like large phono to 3.5mm thing into mic or line-in will do, then enable the input on the mixer.

If u have a front panel for the SBLive, there is a large phono input on it aswell. Or I`m getting confuzed with the headphone jack.

Dunno if any gain was used, been too long.

Sweet! Saves me some spondoolies.

My only concern is how much voltage can the SBs take?

I mean 1.2volts is alot to go into a chip, qui?

Where u generating 1.2V m8 ?

EDIT: Input impedance ? No idea, I`m sure there`s a tech chart on the SBLive somewhere on the net. Gotta bare in mind here, we`re talking SmokeOnTheWater with 2 fingers kind of playing.

Tox.

If you can spare £90 get a Line 6 POD 2. This has ethernet and you can plug ya headphones directly into the unit...I have the version 1....it OWNs!

Wow!

Looks like I will be saving a little. But I can see this as a future purchase! :)

Thanks Mullet! ;)

No worries mate...

We'll have to get an online jam sorted LOL...with Frag as our bass player...

OC3D Thrash ...mohahahahahah

Here ya go Tox:

That's what I use....

If you have an x-fi front i/o panel you'll be able to plug the POD into ya PC.
