GTX 670 or 7970 GHZ ?

Hey,

I'm looking at getting a new GFX card in the next couple of weeks *cough* Christmas present to self.....

If it wasn't hard enough to choose already, I've heard that the new drivers for both cards make the reviews I've found on the web obsolete..

Everything counts as a decider minus the price of them.

Just a note, I'm running 2560 x 1440 so I'm not sure if the extra GB of ram from the ATI would make any difference?

Thanks for the help :)

I would go with the 7970 personally. Have you read TTL's review of the asus 2560 x 1440 monitor? its got the graphs for a 7970,7950,680 and 670 so might be worth a look. You get the 3 free games with the amd cards which sweetens the deal aswell :)

Yeah I think I'd go with the 7970 or GTX680 for that resolution as you'll need the most horsepower you can get.

just through the fact your running 2560x1440 i would go with 7970

i got that res screen and running SLI680 and still a few games that stick their middle finger up at me in some areas, i can imagine a 670 not being as god as the 7970,

Plus you get 2 awesome games, which if you get any you haven't got there is someone on here that will buy the keys, me probably being one of them :P i so wanna buy far cry but in 2 minds

but again 7970 will get better results and Tom actually don't a recent review on the asus 27" screen and tested out the top 2 cards from each brand check it out was a good watch and read

Thanks for the input fellas. I hadn't seen TTL's review of that panel when I posted this, very interesting (and useful)... although am I missing the specs of the exact cards he used? Is that a stock 7970 or GHZ edition?

Get the normal 7970. GHZ and regular 7970 are the same crap just the ghz edition has higher default clocks which is pretty pointless considering you can change the clocks yourself without putting as much power into it. Pretty sure he was using a reference 7970 btw

Well that's saved me some £££, thanks :)

I'm intrigued as to why everyone says the 7970, the results look very similar (GTX 670 beats the 7970 in a few games). Whats the thinking behind the 7970 being superior?

Faster at higher res, as fast as the GTX 680 but cheaper :), get a ref like mine and flash with the official AMD bios to get it running at core 1050/1500 before overclocking it :)

Regards.

Better price/value and the overclocking seems to be superior.

7970, it has more memory, hence its better for higher resolutions.
Only disadvantage its that you dont Physics / Cuda

Nice one you won't regret it :) Just get one with a quietish cooler lol mine is a screamer under load (Sapphire HD 7970 reference cooler)
