LOL!

£20 save :D.

Make sure you get some decent after-market cooling as well.

I had a friend frying it twice.

Pah... Twill be a lil cooler than my old 4870X2... Now they cook.

Thing is I've gotta settle on a GFX card for more than 5 minutes and then I'll plumb it in to my loop... Maybe I'll stick with this one for a bit.. Expect a water block to cost a bomb for it though.

Hot little puppies arent they.

Paying a high high premium for the newest tech there.

Yeeeeeeeeeeeeah well I bought my X2 when prices were low (comparatively) and since then they went up £80 or so (minus recent price drop).. Basically I made a lil bit of profit from my X2 and that will soften the blow of the 295. *waits for the 19th*.

What is this play.com trick and what is the best setup these days int erms of gpu?

280's in sli, 4870x2 or the 295??? Been out of the loop a while :p

I was waiting for someone to ask that ;)

x2 was the best single card but it gets beat by the 295 in a high percentage of games. SLI 280s beat the 295 in most things but not by much and SLI 260s are a lil slower than the 295 generally. That about cover it?

Oh yeah the Play trick? Hmmm to post or PM.

I'll post it as I'm nice:

Linky

Takes a min or two.

Cool, thanks Bungy

Re installed my gx2 the other day, I never did get around to rma'ing it... It works fine! Although Warhead isn't looking very good on my rig :/

Maybe time for a new gpu... Not sure about the 295 tbh. Every time a gx2 variant comes out the new gen are hot on its heels. Rather have the same power in a single card... Or just get a bargain 790 and a few 280's... Hmmm

tut tut......never thought I would see the day when you ask for advice on tech

My thoughts precisely, I got stung that way :( LOL

Bungral have you got your gtx295yet???

we want pics and benchies :D

No probs Smithy.. I agree with the GX2 and new tech but they reckon the next flagships are gonna be on 40nm which is still a few months off which is pretty much as long a gap as you are gonna get. As for a single gpu giant having the most power, well I believe those days are gone. Dunno whether that's a good thing or not but there ya go.

Also Swale, na man not got it yet... It's on pre order until Monday. They have bumped the price up £10 I think but I should still get it at original price I believe. I shall bench of course :)

Bungral you could be right there maybe the single cores are falling behind seems that dual cores such as 295 and x2 are becoming the trend, cant wait to see the next gen cards from ati and nvidia

thing is they nobody can seem to get anymore than two gpu's to scale well

if they could get tri sli to scale it would be a major step up

Cripes. Imagine proper Tri-SLI scaling and proper Quad optimisation.

All that hardware would suddenly be useful and the quality of graphics would make Crytek weep.

There is news that nVidia's partners have cancelled orders of new shipments (on account of the global crysis and overstocking) so if you see an nVidia card like the GTX295 you shoud get it. At any price.

I should move to a country that actually has this card in stock. :(

To continue the discussion, I would stay away from tri and quad SLI (the same for CF), the cost and power usage just don't warrant the third or fourth card, when the performance gain is so small.

I really miss the old days of 3DFX, when adding a gpu would mean instant performance gain. Things were simpler then (software wise), but I really think nVidia and ATI don't really put much effort into multi-gpu (they do with the hardware and the marketing, but not with their drivers and sofware).

I do like CUDA tho'... PhysX sound good also, especially if you have an older 8 or 9 series card.

Well I cancelled my Play order as they were taking ages. Fair enough I had it cheap but meh, can't be arsed to wait any more. Decided to go with the EVGA one from Ebuyer. The lil voltage tweaker they are gonna bring out very soon might have had a slight bearing on my decision.

voltage tweaker that sounds intresting.

although on my xfx card my gpu is maxed out @685 stable maxed I mean it will not go higher due to some kind of limiter I imagine, nibitor might be a thought soon:D

I saw that, Cant afford the 295 but im going for an EVGA 260 for the exact same reason.. you can get another 30% out of the clocks with bigger volts :D

30%!!! hmm my xfx295 required no more volts and hit the max GPU mhz limit on the rivatuner....need to find a bios editor.
