GTX 1080 the true story

I like that channel, Always well done and well spoken.
I'm waiting until 1080's start hitting the pre-owned market, The price hike really took all the wind out of my sails.

Fair to say the price has knocked everyone for six, initial thoughts is that they have given AMD an easy opportunity to become the new go to GPU provider.

Basically my thoughts in the video, but he goes far into more detail. 1080 is overhyped and reviewers are drooling over it and just giving rave reviews. I've only seen one source online that isn't really raving about it. They kinda relate to what this video is about(in a different manner). Everything else seems biased so far as I can tell. Not really knocking off nvidia for the cons they bring but instead focus more on the pros. Yeah it's techincally insane the increase they've obtained from a perf/watt perspective, but they really didn't improve much else. Yeah it clocks higher, but that's FinFET for yeah.. I feel like with all the advances they had from a technology standpoint, they could have done so much more. Instead they focused on the software side of things.

Let's pray AMD capitalize on this. Nvidia haven't been this weak in a long time, now is there chance to make some money and stay in business. Or this price hike from Nvidia won't be the last...

I'm actually looking forward to Polaris more than ever now, Hopefully the top end Polaris offers solid performance with a sane price point.

As I no longer have a G-Sync monitor I don't feel the need to stay with Nvidia any more.

I hope AMD surprise us with the midrange thing. Like they are throwing people(well probably Nvidia mostly I'd say) saying it's targeted at midrange buyers, but the performance comes out to at least the Fury X but at a fraction of the cost(because midrange). Basically redefining the midrange market and then Vega comes along and dominates like it should along the with 1080TI. But this is just my feelings on it. Probably wrong. I just can't see how they maintain 390x performance when moving from 28nm/Planar to 14nm/FinFET. Even if all they did was increase clock speed like crazy it would perform better.. just how I view it all. I'm prepared to be wrong though

If we can get Fury X performance or better for less than the Fury X, Around 390X pricing then it will be a sure buy from me :)

It'll **** me off.. just means I bought a more expensive worse version lol
I'll probably never buy enthusiast level again now though. Too much money and still doesn't last that long much longer.

I usually go midrange - the only reason I got the 980s over the 970 was that there was no stock for about two months (plus there were no Ti's released at the time)
The cost versus benefit was just not there but at least I went in with my eyes open.

Enthusiast is just that. For people that need the best, or people that want the best regardless of value. Mind you this happens with every release. Titan was king then the Ti's came and blew them out of the water for 60% of the cost. Just how tech goes.

Mid life cycle of Vega/Fat Pascal will be the earliest I look at upgrading so hopefully prices have settled by then.

How much of those perf/w gains were actually due to the arch itself though.

TBH was only even looking forward to this gen cause of the jump from the ancient 28nm

Funny though I don't recall there was this much drama over the Titan series pricing when it launched, but ok it wasn't a card for everyone. It seems everyone want a Pascal but is unwilling to pay the price as an early adopter.

My suggestion: Then wait for the prices to drop (which they usually do after the first month), or wait for AMD's next generation of cards if the price is too much for you. But considering the price of Fury X was rather high as well, I'm not sure I understand this kind of thinking with threatening to leave nVidia for AMD :)

The thing that really makes me think is the true performance difference between the 980ti titan x and pascal. A heavily clocked 1080 is only a few percent faster than a heavily clocked 980ti and slower than the heavily clocked titan X yes it's better power efficiency but that's not that important for desktop really as maxwell was incredibly efficient itself.

My view nw is if you own a titan x or 980ti stick with it till the next gen or big pascal

interesting video there , now ive heard the prices i think it might be worth waiting to see what comes next form nvidia /amd .

People paid the titan x prices because it was a titan card and every titan card has been priced the same.

The difference now is this is the entry level high end for pascal like the 980, 780, 680 they were all priced at the £350 - £430 bracket which is acceptable for what your getting and now suddenly nvidia have got greedy and released the 1080 at a shocking £190 over the 980 launch price and let's remember inflation in the UK has been at pretty much zero since the 980 so you can't blame it on natural price increase in line with inflation it's just pure greed.

That is the huge issue and people rightfully should be F####D off I know I am

First gen Pascal anyway. I understand the 'hype' because it has the new 16nm architecture and thus obviously should have some advantages over Maxwell. However, this is the first Pascal release, so it's better to wait for the next one imo.

My Titans aren't going anywhere soon, that I'm sure of :D

The Founder's Edition is a bit of a marketing fail from Nvidia given its price. It's like spending more to get less. It's certainly a nice looking piece of kit, but given the price.... meh!

I'm more interested in what the non-reference GTX 1070 will be like, it'll likely be my next graphics card since I'm overdue for an upgrade from my GTX 780.

The problem with nvidia launching thier reference card at this price is that the AIB cards will be the same price or higher because the lower tier price they advertised is only RECOMMENDED!!!

Well I agree. I don't see why most people would need to upgrade every time there's a slightly newer model on the market. Titan X and 980 Ti owners should at least wait for the 1080 Ti, perhaps even longer. Upgrading every 6-9 months just isn't feasible.
