GTS 250 dead?

Just under a year ago (still in warentee) i bough a Nvidia XFX GTS 250 1GB. Everything has worked perfectly fine since i got it, even turned the fan up to 100% all the time to keep it cool.

Then whe i turned my computer on yesterday, it automaticly went straight to the onboard graphics card, despite the bios saying that its the PCI express as default. Tried resetting bios etc etc etc

I even tried unplugging the power and keeping it in the PCI express socket to see if the motherboard would complain, and it just acted if it didnt exist. Unfortunatly, i dont have another working computer with a PCI express slot, so i cant simple see if its the motherboard or not.

And suggestions before i send it back?
 
Already updated the bios, and i cant see it inside the device manager (comes up with the onboard card) so cant update the drivers

have you taken it out and re-seated it

how would you get a display on the 250 if its using onboard or have you got it plugged into the mobo
 
Ive already reseated it about 5 times, ive got the onboard for VGA and the GC for DVI into the monitor(supports both), all my monitor, motherboard and graphics card support both DVI and VGA and ive tried switching around etc. Even with the onboard not pluged in, and i switch to DVI on the monitor, theres nothing, monitor acts as if the computer is turned off.
 
ok turn off the comp and remove the batt take out the power leade and flick the PSU switch.

then plug the DVI cable into the GPU but do not plug anything into the onboard
 
so i assume you just have the one slot.

try and borrow another card to rule out the mobo

and then RMA it fella
 
Unforatunely, i dont have another card either, and no one i know near me is that interested in comps, so they dnt have offboard cards :S

This is the second card in 2 years that this has happend, first time , it was a 9600GSO which caused a short so my comp didnt start fullstop(was out of warentee). Im starting to loose trust in nvidia now

Its a cooler master 620W Modular PSU, but ive never had problems with it before, and its not like im putting high demand on the PSU either.
 
Ah OK. Just found it odd that youd lost a couple. That's usually down to bad PSU.

Did you use a fan control software like MSI afterburner? becasue the default fan to temp thing in the drivers SUCKS.
 
Btw, forgot, i ran DPC Latency Checker and there is no problems with the motherboard, must be the card, im going to RMA it on monday.
 
Do you think it would be wise for me to flash the graphics cards bios? ive already updated the mobo bios etc but nothing seems to be working, my computer just doesnt see the card, yet my monitor does....

Could you elaborate on this ?

you mean you hook it (monitor) up to the GTS250 and you get a signal ?

and well if nothing works you could try to flash it...
 
You can only flash a card that is present in your device manager matey. If it isn't it's brown bread.

Without sounding rude (but being blunt) don't mess with it and just RMA it.

Manus have ways of knowing what you have been up to. Get it back and get it replaced, you might even luck out and get something a bit newer depending on the manu.
 
Thanks for your help guys, ive sent the RMA form to dabs.com where i got it from, and im posting it tomorrow, everything is in perfect condition, even the box and all the accessories are there lol just unfortunate that it had to die so soon

Who knows, i may get the replacment GTS 450 instead, with the GTS250 being discontinues

I hope you do, friend of mine was RMAing his one year old Asus 9800 GX2, and got GTX 295 as a replacement

Lucky bastard.

Only because I look after my HW well, I will never benefit like that.. It usually dies after warranty, or I sell it and buy a newer stuff.

I'd be mighty peeved if you got a 450. They're really rather poo tbh.
