Has anyone else had a problem, with GTA IV on the pc? as im about ready to put my fist thru the monitor... at first it would install properly then black screen.. & lock up.. now it downloads but when launching it has that secu launcher thing... I follow EVERY DAM guide on the interweb on how to resolve it, but low & behold there is files missing from the install directory or is there as there is no vcredist thing that is supposed to be there? yet im downloading it 14GB a time over & OVER again to see if it pops up but oh no its mr illusive shoddy pants... the download client In question is games for windows live.. I have had it running in the past but never had this much trouble & my patience is wearing thin been at it for like 2hours now!!!

any help is incredible appreciated

A couple of questions for you:

Are you running/installing through steam?
If not, where have you been installing it from? Rockstar directly? Somewhere else?

If through steam, I may be able to help a little: I had a similar issue first run around, and the fix was to simply change a configuration file in the steam directory to point to the correct path. (It seems that the downloader placed the files in a path that is different from what was stipulated in the configuration file.

Sorry, I am at work at the moment, so I can't get the file name for you. :(

I am using games for windows live client, where I bought it from donekys ago :(

its driving me potty

look up xliveless.dll from the gta modding forums,it bypasses the need for the GFWL abombination(and with that .dll it means its easier to mod as well, although you will need the 1.0.4.0 version for most of the mods, not the 1.0.7.0)

That closed down...
it may have closed down but that doesn't stop you downloading the games you have bought now does it?

don't suppose you have this patch?

I found a tool to fix all my woes thank god!
how ever I will not post a direct link as it has naughty bits in it that could allow you to use the game without buying it however search on youtube: GTA IV Pro Fixer* & im sure you will find it, pretty neat really! its uses the -nomemrestrictions -restrictions technique but in a neat little file in the actual directory of the game not branching of a shortcut :)

found out why I didn't play it often that stupid chase camera angle
