Ground rails

I've got a quick question about the ground wires in molex plugs.

Are they all grounded to the same location?

I've got a custom built plug to go into my not-yet-installed NV5, as pluging it directly in to my old 7800..well you know. I was wondering if its possible for me to rig up a switch to alternate between the 12v and (now its either 3.3v or 5v... the red one... I just got out of bed=brain gone too mush) using a 3pin switch, and groundinmg it on the same rail.

A little like this.

Red = 5v, Yellow = 12v mate.

Just out of interest, why on earth would you wanna run an AS fan at 5v, they are quiet as it is :/

Also, if you plug it into your cards fan header, you can adjust fan speed using software.

Cos it blew up the fan controler chip last time last time i pluged it into the fan header on the card, its the rev2 not 3. It is nice and quiert at 12, but im trying to sleep with the PC on. That NV5, my 120mm extractor on very low voltage and the fan in my psu will be the only ones running. And out of them the NV5 is the loudest. Bringing it down would mean that its all quiert enough for me to sleep:)

How about savign yourself some hassle and running it at 7v 24/7? Thats a nice&easy mod to do.

Its a good idea jim but i'd like to have the extra power there when i need it.

And effort wise its just snip, strip, solder three times insted of two.

I that case, i would ground to the wire closest to the +12v one. I very much doubt there will be any problems with either, but i reakon the above will be ur safest bet. :)

Trying to sleep with it on? I am running 5 Sunon 120s that are like 45db each. I really do need to get these on a controller to lower the speed of them down.

as fas as i know and have experienced earth/ground is the same in the entire case.

i have for example powered fans from a molex and put the rpm sensor wire to the motherboard so the ground in the molex goes to the motherboard too.
