Greeny residue

Hi,

Wondered if anyone would kindly help me identify what is going on in this loop I've taken apart for a new build?

I have 4 rads in total in a cosmos 2.
A Koolance double bay res 1 x cpu and 2 x 7970 GPU blocks (one Koolance and one EK)

Coolant is Mayhems X 1 Clear (there are no dyes at all in the loop and nothing extra added other than the premix coolant)

Here are some pics...

I've never seen algae up close and personal in a loop to know if this is what I've got here. But this is more like a grease residue/gunk.

I know that Koolance use clear Silicone Grease in their blocks to hold gaskets in place as they assemble them. I've experienced this in both the bay res and the GPU blocks. And there is some amount of it in all the areas gaskets are used. In the case if the bay res, that is quite a few.

So I'm telling myself that the grease has moved around the loop and then it's turned green over time. But is it?

Has anyone seen this before?
I have my loop on a 24 hr clean using Mayhems Blitz part 2. And I'm going to take apart the res and "soapy water" clean it.

Someone on another forum is suggesting it's algae and plasticizer.

But I thought that Mayhems X1 Premix was suppose to prevent that?

What do you folks think on here? Is he correct?

I dont think youll ever know 100% without testing dude - its going to be really easy to blame the coolant and the coolant people will probably blame you etc etc etc

Just clean it all out and get something fresh in there

Thanks for your reply Tom. Yer your right mate!

Question is... do I add X1 back into the loop and assume "bad luck try again".
Or opt for something else.

If opting for something else is a suggestion. Can anyone recommend a clear premix?

If its algae the 'premix' should have stopped it (assuming its got biocide in)

If its plasticiser then sadly that means you either need different hose or different coolant.

If I say change the coolant it looks like I dont like Mayhems - if I say change the hose other will blame mayhems

but end of the day if you put all of the same stuff back in it will more than likely happen again.

If you just want clear Id buy the biocide and anti corrosion stuff separate and add it in yourself

I see what you mean...

well I was using Masterkleer hosing. But I've recently got some PrimoChill PrimoFlex Advanced LR. So I'll go with that and mayhems X1 since I have a few bottles of unopened X1 spare I can use.

Dunno if its similar issue but this is from their site.

Do not use Mayhems Pastel with Tygon tubing as Mayhems Pastel seems to react with it changing the colour of the tubing to a greenish colour. This is not the fault of Tygon or Mayhems it is just a incompatibility issue. Pastel works fine with XSPC, Thermochill, Clear Flex, Masterclear and a few other brands.

Maybe... Mike from Mayhems recommends primochill advance RT.
So I've got my hands on some of that and I will give that ago once I've cleaned the whole shabang.

Mind you, it did not help that I did 2 rads, GPU and Res rinse using Mayhems Blitz part 2.... Went to do the rinse needed to clear out any left over cleaning agent.
And I did not realise that the water I'd bought from some place (I won't mention the place) sent me what appears to be old Di water (going on the dust on the top of the bottles) with mold/algae bits in the bottles of water.

Was totally p!ssed because I did not notice it till I'd added it into the clean loop. It was as I was pouring more that I happened to notice the bits in the water in side the bottle. I'd already added over half into the loop by then.
Obviously with what I'm dealing with at the moment. I did not want to risk anything. So did another few hours of Blitz part 2 to kill anything that might be in there from the bottled water and rinsing.

Well I decided to take apart the EK 7970 GPU block.

Considering I'd been using a non water based coolant Mayhems X1 Clear (which is a plant extract as many will know) and that it has corrosion prevention in it. I don't know what is to blame for this.

Maybe that EK did not fix their plating system and it's only blocks that have been run for some time that will now show if they was really fixed. I'm not pointing the finger I'm actually trying to work it out myself.
I've cleaned it with soapy water... rinsed and Di water rinsed. Dried completely and now I'm going to put it back together.

There is no flakes that I can see. It's just a very thin coated plating.

Here are some photos.
