Graphics Card Woes....

Bought a MSI GTX N570, having some real problems with it.

Whenever I play games I get constant freezing issues, I also get really weird squealing sounds coming from the card when under intensive tasks. Now (this has developed recently) the card can get up to 30% load when I just do simple tasks like maximising and minimising windows on Windows 7 over and over again... This causes everything to freeze (including the sound oddly enough - which is coming from the integrated sound card in my mobo) which is getting really annoying.

Do I have a faulty card? Or is it just teething problems (I have only used it for a total of about 30 hours)? Or is there a problem with my motherboard? Or both?!

Thanks for the help

If its a single card and you are getting, as you said "also get really weird squealing sounds coming from the card when under intensive tasks." Tells me its broken. But before you make any decisions lets see what the rest of the community says.

I say its broken.

do you have another rig to check it in??? are you sure ur psu is up to the task amp and wattage wise??? are you sure its seated properly and have both power pci-e plugged in??? need to know what trouble shooting you have tried already.

My gtx460s give off a squeeling sound when they are under max load, heard its quite common, freezing issues have you installed the drivers and reinstalled them?

Most gpu's squeal when they are putting out huge framerates only. Unless you're getting in excess of 1000fps then it's broken but test it in another rig incase you have an underperforming PSU like I did once. Also, as mentioned, check drivers are installed correctly and check the MSI website for a GPU bios update

Will answer some questions:

- It is just a single card.

- My PSU is a Corsair GS800 (I am sure this I way more than I need for my system).

- It is reference cooled.

- I have not tried re-installing drivers, will try that now.

- I have another rig to try it in, I will do that after updating the drivers.

Thanks for the help guys! I already had to RMA a SSD and tbh RMAing items sucks... So I want to avoid that.

Corsair are one of if not the most reliable PSU manufacturer.

If you bought it from somewhere which is sloppy with their RMAs and doesn't check things over, then might be worth a check that the thermal paste hasn't been broken between the store/ warehouse and when it arrived at your door (do this only once you are sure no software is causing the problem).

UPDATE: I updated all the drivers and BIOS and installed MSI Afterburner OC software... Seems to have really fixed the problem.

Now that I have it clocking much faster it very rarely freezes (now only when exiting games and when the card is cooling down) and the squealing has gone.

As always, OC3D saved my ass again!

i had a problem like this but many years ago with a 7900gtx (i know its old) i thought it was my gpu at first then my psu, it was my onboard sound, couldnt hack the gameing and alt tabbing into different screens. disable your sound see if that fixs it, if not differnt rig and rape the card.
