GPU upgrade

How we doin?

I'm thinking it may be about time to upgrade my gpu. My current one is an Asus gtx 750ti 2gb. Nice card but getting the upgrade itch now. I've been keeping an eye on the new cards out from both sides (Rx series and 10 series) and since I'm only running a 1080p 60Hz monitor that takes out the 1080 and 1070 cards cause I feel like it'd be a waste of a good card (and outside my budget!!) so I'm looking towards the 1050 or 1060, or rx 460, 470 or 480. Since I'm not looking to upgrade to 1440 any time soon, what would your opinions be on the card to choose? Would the rx 480 and 1060 be too much for my monitor? I play games like GTA 5, Doom, Fallout 4 stuff like that. Would it be worth waiting until the vega stuff comes out to see if the rx series drops in price or do you think that will make a difference to the lower end? Thanks in advance!!! :D

1060 is spot on for 1080, little more powerful than the 970 which was my previous card and that was perfect and quite happy at 1440 too. so the 1060 will serve you well into the future.

P.S make sure you get the 6GB variant

In name of future i would go with GTX1060, i was in same situation as you, only i took 6GB Strix, but only because i needed aesthetics to match my Z170i theme. Rather than that - even kinda FE GTX1060 is bang for the bucks.

I would go AMD since they generally improve over time and driver updates and offer better bang for buck

The 1060 and 480 are basically tied now. Drivers from AMD have come a long way. If you google 480 reviews with the new Crimson ReLive driver update, you'll see in a lot of people's test that the 480 is about 2% slower at 1080 overall but at 1440p is about 5% faster(can't remember which review this was tho). So really I'd find one that you like from both camps. Then pick the cheaper one. From AMD I'd choose the Sapphire card personally. I'm not impressed with the MSI gaming one(I currently own it). On the Nvidia side EVGA gets my vote for there customer support alone(best in the business)

As of now then I would take the RX 480 hands down. Also it will improve over time, in the long run then it is a better card.

Thanks for the replies guys! So rx 480 or 1060 is the way to go so! Gonna have a look see if there's anything for January sales... I'm tempted by the rx 480 more than the 1060 a change from nvidia to amd might be interesting! Thanks again!

For Fallout and GTA V, I'd suggest a GTX 1060 6GB over an RX 480. Don't bother with the 1050; the RX 470 is the better choice if you're trying to save your pennies—but I do suggest splurging for the 1060. Any 1060 that has decent reviews will do. You don't need the flashiest one as the GPU is so easy to cool and overclock.

From a quick look on prices it seems at the moment I can get either a 6gb 1060 or anot 8gb rx480 for the same price (£250) so it seems the new card inflation is dying down a bit! Thanks for the advice everyone!
