Hi all,i have lots of questions so sorry if it's a lot,i just need help..

We are going to make a post about a custom pc case we are making out of a old Tv - wood frame Tv.

Now today i would like to know is the 6670 1gb ddr3 better then the 6670 512mb ddr5 with HyperMemory to 2.2gb?

i'm building a pc for my brother and i looked at the gt630 and looked online what is better for the same price and i see a 6670 come up - is the 6670 better then the 630 1gb ddr3?

We are looking for a card to play games on and work on,so will the 6670 be better then my gt9600 1gb?we will upgrade him to a better GPU later.

playing.
res:1366x768 (18.5" LED samsung)
games like:BF3,COD MW3,dirt 3,far cry 3.....etc.

if anyone has fps test for the 6670 on games that will be grate.

Thanks for reading my post.

In order to play Battlefield 3 or Farcry 3, you will need something ALOT better than what you have stated.

I also hope that you have a decent CPU and other hardware, because if you are running an old, outdated system, there is no way getting a new Graphics card is going to allow you to play more games.

In order to play BF3 and FarCry 3 you're going to need something in at least the 200$ range. And thats not to mention anything about the other hardware you have...

Sorry Dude.

Specs are:
CPU: G860 for now
PSU: coolermaster extrem power plus 500w
MOBO: Asus P8H61-M LX rev2
RAM: Corsair 2x4Gb (8GB)
HDD: western digital 500Gb or saegate 1Tb.
GPU:looking at the 6670 DDR5 or DDR3 ?
Screen: samsung 18.5" 1366x768.

we are getting him this specs because he needs a pc for work and he like to play game maybe not on highest setting for now, getting him a 1155 MOBO because we can later upgrade the GPU and CPU.

any ideas of the DDR3 vs DDR5 witch is better?

Thanks.

I'd just give him your old gt9600 for now, it's really not worth spending any money on such a card imo, maybe look at a nice second hand card

I understand that this is a PC forum but obviously we all want your brother to be able to enjoy games at their best and with the specs you've mentioned this isn't going to happen. For the $200+ you need to spend to get him playing BF3 etc. at nicely playable framerates you are far better off getting a console for less than the price of the card and whatever other upgrades you need. Especially since all the games you have mentioned are available and will be far more enjoyable on a console than an outdated pc

Just my 2 cents..

Please don't waste your money on a system that is old before you've even built it.

He'll be disappointed, and so will you.

ddr3 is not as good as addr5, but in the context your asking is like like asking someone where they want to get shot, the head or the chest.

... Both sux, big-time.

Ok first of all thanks for replying,

I am building this more for work then games he just would like to know will it be better then My Pc (specs below) and we will upgrade him later to better specs all round,i'm looking for someone that has a GPU or CPU they are selling please let me know.

secondly regards to the GPU,

We just want him to have a better one then me,

My Specs:
CPU: athlon 64 x2 5200+
GPU: gtx9600 1Gb
Ram: 4x1GB (4gb)
PSU: isot 500W
MOBO: Biostar.

Like i said More for work and lite gaming - i know BF3,Fc3 is not lite but i play it on my pc,we are looking at second hand but the people her in South Africa are crazy with there prices - do any of you have parts you are selling?

Thanks.

If it's mostly for work, I'd get a i3 and use onboard video untli you can afford a decent video card, this way you have a great basis for a basic gaming rig. You could also take a look at an amd apu, as a cpu it's worse than an i3, but the onboard gpu is much better.

DDR5 on GPU's is DDR3 for desktops.

With those cards, what memory it has is moot as the cards are not good for gaming to begin with

I would get an APU instead. Its integrated graphics outperforms that of any i3.
As for playing BF3 and Far Cry 3, you would be spending alot of money on a computer that will struggle to play these "heavy" games. Get a console or save a bit more and get decent components. Don't disappoint your brother and yourself a the same time.

Hi guys we really one to stay with a Intel for upgrading later so i talked to my bro and we are looking at a 7770 OC from Gigabyte,so what do you guys think?
Gigabyte 7770 OC worth the money?

Now we're getting somewhere! The 7770 is an excellent choice for your needs, at least in my opinion. I recommend you to upgrade that CPU as soon as possible because dual-core isn't quite up to the task when gaming. But as you stated before, if it's not meant to be a killer gaming machine, you'll be just fine :)

From what I have seen the 7770 plays BF3 pretty well ( surprised ). But BF3 is also very CPU dependent so make sure you have a good CPU that can handle it ( an i3 if you're sticking with intel ).

I'd still prefer to grab an i5 over any i3. Of course they are better than Pentium G860, but as they only have 2 cores and no Turbo, it's just wasting money. Even the cheapest possible quad-core i5 boosts you to a completely new level of performance. Just my point of view, everyone has their own :D

I agree with you completly, but the guy is looking for a budget build, and he did decided to stick with the Intel plaform ( I was going to suggest a cheaper AMD FX CPU ). An Ivy i5 is prrretty expensive, but he could get an earlier gen i5 cheap I bet.

Yeah, he definitely wants to have a budget build so i3 is capable of playing games, but it will soon become a serious bottleneck... I am a little bit of a fanboy and preferring intel too but you got the point, AMD has some good value quad-core processors as well, even though their latest releases have been a bit disappointment... (No offense to anyone who owns an AMD bulldozer or piledriver)

Sure, it might become a bottleneck but for the moment it would do. I don't know how true this is, but I heard from people that an i3 will perform the same as an i7 in games. True or not the i3's are pretty good. But at this pricepoint I would go with an fx 6300 which outperforms any i3 and starts to chase the i5's.
I am disappointed myself with AMD. The Bulldozers were disappointing cause they didn't deliver and the Piledriver cause they are not much of an improvement over the Bulldozers. The flagship FX 8350 can only keep up with the 3570k and that is a huge disappintment. AMD haven't done anything brilliant since the Athlon64. But their prices are decent and the CPU's don't suck in games.

I don't know what those guys play then... Tetris maybe? Or then they have a GPU that is a bottleneck and cannot provide more power than that. I have tested multiple scenarios with my 3570K (1-core, dual-core, 4-core, and different clock rates by changing settings in BIOS) to find out how much of a difference there is with different setups. I noticed that on some games an overclocked dual-core is capable to keep up with the game, but it has larger FPS dips as those two cores run at full load almost all the time. You can't get around the fact that games need four-cores to run silky smooth, combined with a descent GPU of course.
Biggest disappointment with those two processors was that their single core performance is absolutely horrific. If an 8-core processor is not able to beat a stock 4-core processor, it must be something to avoid.

EDIT: Now we're going slowly off-topic, don't you think :D

OFF TOPIC - Yes we are, I like o have deep discussion and share my passion with other people .

Bottom line, get the 7770 and get a cheap i5 if you can afford one.
