GPU advice

Hi guys, was just wondering if you could give me some advice regarding upgrading my GPU.

I'm really getting that upgrade itch and have several choices at the moment.

1. Get an AMD R9 Fury which I can get new for £265.

2. Wait for Black Friday deals (not convinced there are going to be any better than what I listed in 1)

3. Wait for the new GPUs to come out early next year

It's a tough choice and was hoping one of you might have a bit of info that would sway me one way or the other.

Or what would you do in this situation?

Thanks in advance.

EDIT: ALSO WORTH MENTIONING THAT I HAVE A GTX 780 CLOCKED AROUND 1200MHZ CURRENTLY.

ANOTHER EDIT: I AM RUNNING AT 1440P

Well, if I've learned one thing, it's that the waiting game can go on for long... Since there's will always be new hardware around the corner.

Although, you do make some valid points and for that, it would be best for someone more tech wise to answer it for you. I just don't have enough knowledge on specifically AMD hardware in order to give any good advice in this case.

Black friday is only about 2 weeks away, Wait for it.

Chances are that this deal on the fury won't be available then, hence the difficult decision.

It is the lowest price it's ever been from what I remember and I honestly kinda doubt Black Friday would beat it.

I've never really looked all that much at Black Friday tech deals, are they usually really good?

Well 4GB will start to become a limiting factor sooner rather than later at 1440P with new games so just factor that into your purchasing decision.

Black friday deals have seen people in the shops being trampled in a stampede of people, Online black friday sales are pretty damn good :)

What games do you run if you don't me mind me asking ?

I'm playing overwatch and doom atm and looking to pick up bf1 and play witcher 3. Looking to also get GTA V if it ever goes on a 50% off sale.

From what I've seen these games aren't really too much in favour of either team besides doom.

Well it's up to you bud, Either wait 2 weeks and potentially get something much faster than the Fury or get the Fury now.

Or potentially not get either, if nothing comes on sale and the Fury goes off the current price reduction.

Under current curcumstances, just wait OP. A 780 at 1200 is no slouch.

The Fury just isnt worth it at this point. Especially if you are going to be gaming at 1440p.

Fury is very capable at 1440p. It's not the best option, but it's performance will still kick some butt. I found when I had mine, that the performance difference between 1080p/1440p was never more than 10FPS. But again it's not the best option, still worth it at some prices. Just in this case with black friday coming around it's probably best to wait

10 fps in which games?... I don't think it's all games though, since every game is designed and optimized differently and for different hardware.

Most of those games are better suited to nVidia hardware so I suggest looking into the 1070. GTA V, The Witcher 3, Overwatch, and Doom (OpenGL) all run better on nVidia graphics cards. BF1 runs well on both and Doom in DX12 mode will better favour AMD. The 1070 should drop in price come Vega. If you're able to wait that long, I suggest doing that.

I have a Fury at 1440p. It's been solid, but it's not a well-rounded GPU. The 4GB has held it back and the card's value has dropped dramatically. It hasn't lasted as long as the 290X has. The 290X lasted three years while the Fury was outclassed in almost every way after only a year. It sat well in its niche slightly above the 980 and well below the 980ti, but it overclocks terribly, draws a little too much power, has a VRAM limitation, and has dropped in value far too early. If you ever sell your older GPU's, I recommend avoiding the Fury.

Not much positivity in here, ain't it? :p ... Rather funny and interesting reading it :)

The entire Fiji line of GPU's disappointed me. The Fury X is for all intents and purposes dead. If the Fury (non X) can be found for £200-230 then it would be a decent purchase, but the Fury X would be a waste of money. It always was a lame GPU, in my opinion. Locked to an AIO, mediocre overclocking, mediocre power consumption, 4GB of VRAM, poor availability at launch, poor relative performance in DX11, all at the same price as a 980ti. The Fury Nano was a great idea and still would be a fun ITX GPU for £180, but that's about it.
