Gotham Knights' last-generation versions have been cancelled

Yeah, I wasn't taken by the gameplay trailer at all. It looks like every other open world game to me. The art style is more subdued, the combat is less fluid (though I do like some of the animations and how close you are to your player), the dialogue is inferior, and I'm sad to see that it's no longer chronicling one spectacular night. The tension that adds is so important for a game. Just being able to 'go home and hit the hay' is straight out of every other book in games that often aren't as good. Instead of copying the original Arkham games, they're copying, in some cases, inferior alternatives.

The draw of Arkham games was playing as Batman. What the hell are these people thinking?

I agree with this as well.

If anything they could have made a Terry McGinnis Batman Beyond game. They would then have had full freedom to give the characters unique abilities because it's set in the distant future and is more open-ended. And we'd still be able to play as Batman. Terry McGinnis was a great Batman. And I don't see why they wouldn't be able to get the original voice actor Will Friedle to play him just as they did with Kevin Conroy. Some people might think that Batman Beyond is reliant on Bruce Wayne, but you don't have to tell the same stories as the comics and animation. They could have rewritten Terry's origin story to weave it into the Arkham game narrative. Could have even called Batman: Beyond Arkham.
