The primary initial use-case for this, and what's being funded first

is cryptographic cracking - so they could break pretty much any modern encryption mechanism in almost real-time....great.

if this is true this is the biggest change in computing since WW2. everything will be different, Except war, war never changes :D

So long as these machines are going to be used for medical or scientific research purposes it'll be amazing, the flip scary side of these quantum systems is that they are easily redirected, passwords are no longer safe, AI can be taught at a rediculous rate and lets not forget the megalomaniacs out there who would just use one for strategic war gaming.

Just imagine the ASCII mining capabilities.

Ya well we can only hope this new tech is used for the right purposes. Nothing we could even do to stop it either. Consumers won't be getting this tech for at least 10 years after it becomes mainstream on Supercomputer/Enterprise levels.

They are gonna have to work harder on biometrics to replace simple password security, as nothing will be uncrackable. AI is scary but the medical & scientific benefits could be huge.

Quantum computing has such huge potential it is difficult to quantify how important that step to Qubits really is. As for the world worrying about its impact on security etc. The same was said when Deep Blue was created and beat Kasparov at chess. That was the 1st time the world really saw how computing power can better the human mind for strategic thinking. Personally I can't wait to see how this can truly change the world!

How does a Quantum Computer work? Does it fire lasers or uses light I am actually curious. Please don't give me some qubits or what not jargon
