Google is reportedly slowing down YouTube on rival browsers

So because we are using a vastly superior browser like Firefox, and not using a huge pile of spyware DUNG like Chrome, they slow us down.

Typical Google.....

They also do this on iOS devices as well.

And the reason for it is even funnier, apparently the framework to blame has reached its end of life a while ago - polymer 2 - and as such Firefox has depreciated it. What a ****-show honestly.

Thanks for the heads up and the link to YouTube Classic extension for Firefox. I noticed YouTube pages loading slowly, now I know why and how to fix it.

They had to hurt the new awesome Firefox somehow though I haven't really noticed it yet. Try to stop using Google products if you can, use DuckDuckgo for search and Protonmail (free and ultra secure) for email. I know you need gmail for a YT account but all my personal stuff now go to Protonmail.

I've been interested in reducing my exposure to Google for a while. ProtonMail seems interesting; I've created an account and will try it out over the next few weeks. I keep meaning to move my default search engine across to DuckDuckGo too; old habits are hard to break.

ProtonMail looks interesting, but what do they make money from? I've had some good free e-mail provides in the past (and other good free services), which either died or changed into something terribly limited just to get people to pay, so I'm suspicious of anything that's free and done from the kindness of people's hearts. Sure it's good but in what form will it survive and how long? Gmail so far seems stable, not going anywhere, and only costs some of my personal data.

From what I can tell it's trying to get you into the basic package (~£3 a month) by limiting the storage space and nice-to-haves like personal domains. It's been going for a few years too which shows hope; I believe it was featured in Mr Robot back in 2013 (another series I've yet to watch).

Honestly if I can live with the free version for a few months I'll likely pay that ~£3 a month just to not be spied on and try to support the ProtonMail team. I'd rather pay that to a security focused business rather than let Google make money off my personal data. I pay more than that to some Patreon funds per month.

People can donate to support it I do every now and again there is also paid plans for more data. Free or basic limits you to 500MB storage. The servers are located under the Swiss Alps (no joke). It was originally started through crowd funding. They won't bend for any interfering government like Google would which is cool which is why people (probably dodgy governments) try to DDOS them constantly.

I've been using it for almost a year now very stable.

Two of the most popular software are free VLC and Handbrake, yes alot of free stuff on the internet does come with adware etc but there are some good free stuff still around.

Also check out Tutanota another encrypted email provider which is free (for the basic account 1GB storage).
