I'm looking for a good cheap skt-775 motherboard.

my p5k-e has died and my warrenty has run out.

it will house these specs:

q6600

4gb cruical ballistix pc2-6400

8800gts g92

max price is around £60

I had an mATX Biostar T-Force board in my mini-li build that was an overclocking monster and dirt cheap, I think they have an ATX version of it.

ty, ill be keeping a eye on that MSI, only looking for a temp 1 until i can afford a awesome motherboard :)

reps to all you ;)

well sorta :p specialtech wont take it back because it has 'physical damage' to it and i can't make a technical support page on asus because the serial number is on the box which i threw away years ago.

edit: that msi motherboard, is there anyway to recieve a email to say when its in stock?

well with my p5k-e i was nice at stable at 3.3 with watercooling but with air ill most likely just go for 3ghz, the thermalright is huge and it prolly cool the pwm's nicely.

In my gaming rig I used an Asus P5Q-E. Not exactly the cheapest, but far from expensive and pretty good board. Very good slot positioning, even if at first it looks awkward. It has so many OC options that sometimes I get lost.

Even so, I got my Q9450 @ 3.2 only by increasing the FSB to 1600, not touching anything else, no voltages, no dividers.

I'd be worried with those power regulators not being cooled either. With a TR120X you should be hitting 3.4 at least with your chip, someone on another forum has run his Q6600 @3.8GHz on a TR120X without any problems for over a year now.

However, make sure you can get a nice board with MOSFET cooling. It is a real pain as they get VERY hot and could burn out with stress from the Q6600 on there.

If I was you, I'd complain to Specialtech and claim your 3 year warranty, a motherboard I purchased a while ago from Novatech was one and a half (maybe older) years old and they took it back without problems. That put Asus right on the top of my list of future components. However I have always liked MSI as well, haven't experienced their customer service yet, but I'm sure it is good!

What was wrong with your board?

Check the motherboard a bit more. The serial# is also stuck on there. Checking through my old pictures my P5K-E had the sticker on the underside of the PCI slot. Same thing with my MFII. Could save you a bit of money if you manage to find it and get an RMA sorted.

Yeah I was wondering this the other day when I thought "what motherboard would I buy if I was a building someone a cheap but good pc"

Alot of the cheap mobos are mATX but i'd rather stick with ATX.
