Going 64bit?

Is it worth it? What would I gain from changing to a 64bit OS?

Hopeing that there would be a performance increase. :)

Any suggestions would be more than welcome!

I'm in the same quandary.

Mine (q) was originally about 4gb... But my side q was about drivers etc...

There was no conclusive answer, I think its one of those 'suck it and see' situations.

An uncomfortable pain in your backside :p

Only reason I'd consider 64-bit is if I thought the 'extras' that some games offer for 64-bit installs were worth the hassle.

It's almost 100% a driver thing. I've tested 64bit Vista and whilst it actually feels "snappier" in a lot of things, the drivers are a joke

No, I digress, more than a joke

How about the driver support for Windows Server 2003 64bit? Just as bad?

Can you get 32bit drivers running on 64bit OSs?

i've been using xp x64 for a couple of years now (since the RC builds) and used server 2003 x64 for a few months before that with no major problems at all

drivers were hard to come by in the beginning, but if you have fairly new hardware (which i see you do) then it shouldn't be a problem

So am I safe to assume that if u list all the hardware u`r gonna use from the ground up and can nail 100% of them with solid 64 bit drivers, u`r gonna be kewl ?

I mean screw my printer, I can network into that etc.

be aware tho that some things like 3d benchmarks are often lower on x64

Is that almost because the likes of the benchmarkers are compiled for 32 bit and hence the 64bit OS is working to run it @ 32bit ?

Kinda like running 16 bit apps on u`r 32bit thang.

yeah, that's what i put it down to, the WoW64 subsystem (Windows on Windows 64bit), though the differences in scores aren't usually huge
