Gigabyte has launched their X99-SOC Champion Motherboard and a new BRIX Mini-PC. The SOC also seems to have an X99 overclock socket with 2083 pins.

I wonder what ASUS will think of their OC socket?

I've been looking at a BRIX but monetary wise not really something that ive thought of going through after buying a hdd/ssd and ram for it plus OS.

would be cheaper to get a new smart TV for what i have planned for it, connecting up to a NAS/ server for media play back and we browsing on the tv.

Quad SLI there looks good :) i like the orange, but will they do to us what they did with their lower end boards?

I have just updated the article with a "My thoughts" section where I discuss the Gigabyte OC X99 Socket. ASUS will not be pleased with Gigabyte after this and their lack of this great feature on their press release makes me think Gigabyte know they are in the wrong.

It would be interesting to see if the sockets are the same, although I assume that they would be, but the question on my mind is did Gigabyte reverse engineer this from the Asus board, or has someone at Asus leaked the designs and pinouts for their OC socket to them.....

Before launch ASUS had a leak where the OC socket design got to competitors.

Gigabyte's OC socket has 2083 pins, ASUS' has 2084 pins. I have no idea how either of them heve their pins configured though.

It would make for an interesting comparison, and also what that extra pin Asus uses is for.
