Gigabyte X399 Aorus Extreme Review

I like reviews when you get wound up and fire 1000 words/min. In recent times videos were neat and organised. I thought you've lost your touch Tom. :)

Really worrying from Gigabyte. They are still not raising from the slump.

Nice review and very diplomatic with it . Imho i think your spot on with the attitude that its good enough from gigabyte which is a real shame .

My current board is Gigabyte and I'm very happy with it. But at this rate my next one certainly won't be.

Thanks!

I had purchased this board prior to your review based on I/O components (USB 3.1G2). I wish to thank you for your efforts which made me aware of the issues this board has. Shame on Gigabyte for their lackadaisical petty attitude. Some organizations would have acknowledged your point and then ignored you. ;) I applaud those few who will work with you and am glad I went with AMD :D.

Sorry but £1700 on a CPU and £450 on a Mobo... if that's not enough to serve as a great server/workstation out the box without the need to overclock there is something seriously wrong! Why would you even try overclocking such hardware?

In answer to your question in the video about what would Gigabyte do if you were a normal customer?
I can answer that from past experience NOTHING!
Which is why I won't buy or recommend ANYTHING from them to anyone and not done so for years, and won't for many more to come!

To be honest with you, over the past few years I have had issues also with Asus, Zotac, Corsair & Alphacool just to mention a few, and the customer service for the consumer is absolutely non existent.

Going back 4-5 years when the workstation/gaming market was very niche support was great but now that so many people are into building there own rigs the vendors just cant keep up with the support so they just choose to ignore...

Just take a look at the support threads on this site which are hardly ever visited now by the vendor......

Vendors getting a good review just by being in contact with a reviewer is Bull**** in my opinion, its all about the consumer..

Yes it is about the Customer you're right about that and I can honestly say that in Australia MSI have the best reputation for looking after their customers and I've heard this from others so it's not just my opinion and I can also report good results from Corsair and NZXT.
Asus and Gigabyte are total S**T here and are not worth the time of day and I've heard that Corsair are now heading down the same path

I agree with you , if it had been marketed as a sever board ,but they put gaming on the box and as such people will try , and as a newbie to the custom pc community i am starting to understand that people aren't happy unless they can get a performance boost for free whether they are ever going to use it or not ;)

@TT :
Did you hear from Gigabyte eventually ?
Not wanting to knock Gigabyte, it’s still one of my favourite brands, but the quality of the responses at their eSupport site has also gone way down over the years. And when eSupport can’t help out, they tell me to contact sales@giga-byte.nl. Which is like emailing a black hole.

One time (May 2016) I inquired at Gigabyte Sales about availability of the GA-H170TN motherboard. It had been on the Gigabyte website for 6 months already, but not yet in reviews, shops, etc. Of course eSupport referred me to the Gigabyte Sales email address, where my email query had already been ignored until this day. At the time I bought an Asus H170I Pro mini-ITX motherboard instead of the Gigabyte board. My girlfriend got fed up with waiting.

That sucks.

I remember reading somewhere in August that Asus announced a cooling kit for the existing ROG Zenith Extreme. When running a 2nd gen Threadripper it is supposed to keep vital parts of the motherboard from overheating. The kit would be upon request (free/paid?), and not bundled. So at least Asus took ownership of the issue. Can't remember where I read it though.

Thanks for replying.

EDIT: Did a quick search and found the official announcement. It's not where I read it though. I think that I read in one of your articles. : https://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?104166-ASUS-Announces-X399-Cooling-Kits-(Zenith-Extreme%26%2365292%3BSTRIX-X399-E%26%2365292%3BX399-A%26%2365289%3B

EDIT 2: Yes it was by your hand : https://www.overclock3d.net/news/cpu_mainboard/asus_will_upgrade_existing_x399_motherboards_to_add_ryzen_threadripper_2nd_gen_wx_oc_support/1
