Tis the season to be jolly, unless you own a Gigabyte motherboard then it's the season to pore over it with a magnifying glass.

Gigabyte in Ebenezer Mode

We always thought a revision was to reduce the cost to the consumer whilst providing the same level of hardware. Or providing even more hardware for the same price. Not providing far less hardware for the same fee to up the share price for the manufacturer.

Spelling mistake...i think ;)

This is very unfortunate, im trying to think of a valid reason where this is acceptable, but it really isnt, and to be honest, it'll impact the company alot more!

Point to make clear here is its been done on the quiet because SI's normally buy these boards in bulk but prices have not been changed.

It seems like such a basic task to add "rev x" with each new revision however small it is (if it's been shipped to customers). This is neglect of the highest order from my POV.

I won't be calling them names, but a company that's already been dragging any bravado it held through the mud with an unimpressive lineup aren't getting style points for near-fraud.

Very painful affair. Same happened to the B85 Sniper bord. Not a particularly unpopular bord. The problem is also in the fact that they don't change the productcode (EAN), so a distributor/shop/website/customer can't tell the difference by looking at the code.

Same seems to go for Asus and MSI (eg: MSI B85M-P33), although they claim they only change very minor things and do change the code and name the revision when bigger changes are made.

I hope this will have a toll on Gigabyte, I'm starting to hate those guys.
Those guys ruined too many things.
(Saddest thing that happened last year was NVIDIA fanboys losing a colour sceme that looked absolutely crisp....)

As if I needed another reason to not buy Gigabyte motherboards, they go and do this.

The annoying thing is that I was going to be looking at potentially getting a Gigabyte board for my next build if, there wasn't a decent MSI or EVGA available.

Oh now that I remembered!

Well, it would be nice if most youtube channels like OC3D talked/ranted about these kind of things companies do, well then the companies themselves wouldn't send products to the channels but it would help the general public know what it is beeing done in the background and put some pressure on the companies aswel, as it will be bad publicity and no one wants that

Surely this breaks some laws? False advertising and deception, or do they not have those laws in Gigabyte land :p

Its a sad day. I also used Gigabyte motherboards when I built Hackintosh builds. I have one based on the GA-Z87N-Wifi MB that replaced my aging Mac Pro. Was thinking of attempting an X99 build after the 1st of Jan when I get year end bonus. Might have to rethink about that or go with a non Gigabyte board.

wow that's gutting I have always been a gigabyte sniper guy myself and never had one problem its been bliss but to go and start doing this isn't right it may be time to
switch over to asus maximus and give them a go I was pondering about change has friends said they was brilliant (asus maximus) is anyone here using them and are they better than sniper
thanks for heads up tinytom

oh by the way MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL AT OC3D AND EVERYONE ON THE FORUMS HAVE A GOOD DAY ALL BEST

I bet they tried this wtih AM3+ when AMD stuff wasn't selling that great.

Result :
FX8150/FX8350 130W TDP made most of cheap MOBO's unstable (they had to kill support for this kind of CPU's).
Then Centurion got out... and only few models supported it (even expensive boards needed new revisons because they coudn't make it stable).

With current Intel, going cheap is easier since most CPU's are locked, and they don't draw that much power.

Let's see how things turns out now...

Holy crap they removed half the stuff on the board......
And here I have been recommending gigabyte as a good solid brand, especially for budget rigs.

Asrock is the way to go for budget builds at least they are beeing honest. Two boards that looks IDENTICAL, the one has heatsinks on the power delivery, the other doesn't. The price difference is a mere 10 euro

I'm reasonably pleased with my current Gigabyte board, and based on previous experience was willing to continue with them. But this information certainly changes things.

Thanks for shedding some light on the shady practice - guaranteed to be some PR scrambling just before Xmas.
