Gamers will get their first look at Star Wars Battlefront 2 on April 15th

What is up with all of this Star Wars lately?... Am I the only one who still doesn't get what the thing is with Star Wars? I've never understood it.

If you grew up in the 70s you would understand. The 70s was awful. Everything was beige or brown or orange. It was like autumn all of the time. Then all of a sudden the 80s begin and the whole world changes. You go from watching cartoons and black and white films to stuff like Star Wars and your mind is completely blown.

Think about it like this. In the 70s there were no video games (not until the end of the decade) and all you had was a record player, a bike and your imagination. Imagine how it's been for some one to go from that to what we have today.

Star Wars came along at the right time. Nothing like it had ever been done before, and if you were into that sort of thing it was absolutely mind blowingly awesome. That's why you see old men going nuts for it.

Me personally? well, I'm autistic and thus I guess I always was and personally I couldn't see what all the fuss was about because at the end of the day it wasn't real. I spent my childhood watching nature programmes and stuff like that. I do like Star Wars, but I am not obsessed with it by any means. In fact, I still haven't seen the new one. I always preferred Indie, but then at least he was based on a real person.

So yeah. Imagine waking up tomorrow and your tablet is gone, your phone is gone, Facebook does not exist etc etc. All of the things you take for granted.. Remove them. Then think about how something like Star Wars could blow the entire world's collective minds ;)

I love Star Wars, but I am not obsessed with it like a lot of people..
I prefer Lord of the Rings as my favorite franchise:)

I played the Star Wars Battlefront Beta they had before the game launched and I was really impressed with the graphics. The animations were great, the visuals so realistic it was like you were playing in the films.

I'd never played a Star Wars game that came close to realising that universe in a realistic manner.

But the game suffered from a massive issue, a lack of content. It was for that reason I didn't buy it, at launch it had only a few multiplayer maps and no single player campaign.

I suspect most of their energy in making Battlefront went into the game engine, possibly to satisfy Disney's expectations for the property. Sadly that resulted in a game that looks and feels great to play but is a bit shallow in game play.

Now I hope the sequel has more content as I will buy it if they use the same engine from the first game but with a more fleshed out sequel.

EDIT:// I've just read this from the main article: "EA has already confirmed that their next Star Wars Battlefront will feature a single-player campaign and will feature characters and heroes from multiple Star Wars Eras."

That makes me very happy. I'll be anticipating this release!

I think you have to grow up in that era to appreciate it. Star Wars just brought in such a vast new world to be fascinated by. There wasn't much else to be drawn towards back then. It's much like the sheer addiction people have to Marvel now. I'm sure in the future people will look back at marvel and say the same thing "what was the fascination about"

It is also why much of the prequels made ep I,II,III were slammed by the older generation. Thank God force awakens and rogue one go back to the roots somewhat.

Star Wars was just a massive part of my childhood, it's just ingrained in me tbh, watching those movies shaped my morals as a kid. Everyone has their likes/dislikes/obsessions :)

But to answer your question, Disney is why it's everywhere right now. They are the ultimate franchise machine and Star Wars is their latest 'baby'.

(I'm totally not typing from a desk at work with 4 Alien busts, a 10" Boba Fett, 10" Han Solo, 2 Tie Fighters, an X-Wing, B-Wing and Y-Wing along with a Millennium Falcon from a tabletop game all on display lol)

Don't they own the rights to MARVEL too? probably why you see that over used too.
I want your desk!!! and all its contents.

I enjoyed it, but the for the first few months after launch there was no variety. By the time there was, there was not enough players around.

I'm excited to get the next one.

Personally I found the last SW:Battlefront game to be very shallow and boring. I didn't even enjoy the gameplay.
On PS4 at least there was no benefit to actually aiming, literally none. (Edit) Not to mention the stupid turrets people could sit in for the whole game almost invincible and snipe you across the map.
I stopped playing pretty quickly.

Yeah I think everyone agrees the first game was worse than even Unity if you take out all the SW nostalgia and hype aside.(my opinion)

:)

I'm not under rating it. It was bloody well mind blowing. Thought about it some more last night and it wasn't until about '83 that I even had a colour TV set in my bedroom. Before that I had some Philips black and white thing.

Going from that to "woom woom" (light sabres) was just incredible. Just not 100% my type of incredible lol. For me? hmm, that was probably Fallout 3. I have more fantastic toys (junk to any one else) for that than I really should. In fact, I have one of the dresser cabinets full of it and about half of my wardrobe. Which I have absolutely 0 items of clothing in.

Star Wars is one of those things which is alright but people have completely blown it out of proportion. You know, like bacon. It's part of my childhood as well and i still love Star Wars, but if i reevaluate the movies as an adult i have to say that none of the movies are more than a 7/10.

So much want!! Looking forward to Alien Covenant as well but it's a shame Ridley bumped Neill Blomkamps version.

Star Wars is the first love in Sci Fi for me. I remember watching it as a 6 year old at the drive in in a 1977 or 78 double feature with James Bond - The Spy Who Loved Me. Just so amazing to see. From that point forward it was nothing but Space LEGO and wanting to dress up as a storm trooper for me.

You don't have to understand it Chrazey. Just appreciate that some people love it and some hate it :p @ KOOS

It was really the first movie that exploded with merchandising and toys. There was nothing like that before. More money was made from the merch revenue than the actual box office.
Lucas made a mint from that as he took a percentage of the merch cut instead of a massive salary in order to get the movie made IIRC.

I'm a Star Trek person and i think Star Trek is 1000 times better than crappy Star Wars.

I'm never going to change my opinion on that.

Also Star Trek does have a lot of things of Star Wars just look at the amount of TV Series that Star Trek has done and plus a new TV Series which hopefully will be done soon. Better actors/actress have been in Star Trek as well.
