Game of your LIFE... so far

This is thanks to Jerome's Thread. I started to think about all the old games I played.

Just curious what is the best game you have ever played. If listing more than one please choose different genres.

So mine are:

RPG: Planescape Torment. Without a doubt wipes the floor with Baldur's Gate 1 & 2 in terms of story and atmosphere. It is my all time fav game. The only true RPG, as the story telling was without reproach to this date. If you like hack and slash and simpler mechanics, and dialogues BG wins.

Stratergy: Dune 2 or Total Annihilation. If had to choose it would be TA simply because I don't think I have ever played multiplayer game as much as I did with TA. To this date I think you can still find servers.

Adventure: The Curse of Monkey Island.

FPS: This one is hard. Wolfenstien 3D was ground breaking at the time. Doom 2 and half-live were also memorable. I would go with Wolfenstien 3D.

Racing: Grand Tourismo 2.

FPS: Played to many to decide on one.

Survival horror: Resident Evil

Action Adventure: MGS3

I'd say:

Multiplayer FPS: Counter-Strike... played that game for countless hours! Switched to Modern Warfare 2 recently though

FPS: Half Life series

3rd Person shooter: Easily Metal Gear Solid series.. amazingly immersive gameplay!

RPG: StarCraft... never got into WoW

Fighting: Tekken series

Action: The old school GTA! (2D View) that was addictive.. even GTA 3 and San Andreas were great. GTA IV was too serious for my liking

Yes Chrono Trigger is THE BEST rpg ever! I can always go back and beat it, and just as much fun. Great story, great characters, great music. Also FF7 naturally. Starcraft is more of an RTS than RPG. But I've played the SC for hours and hours on battle.net. Some of my teachers in middle-school played haha. Diablo series is also a huge time dump of mine. Love them.

Everyone else seems to mention only this Century's games apart from FF7 (I think). I just realised all of mine are the previous.

They don't make them like they use to... thank God. Imagine if you are still running Space Invaders on your XBox 360.........

For it's time, Generals was a graphical breakthough. In the space of a year it moved RTS games from 2D grids with low res textures to 3D free form with medium textures. Quite an important game in that respect. Fun to play for hours on end on top of that

Final fantasy 7 and 9 beats anything i've ever played, but specifically 7, really enjoyed 10 too.

Counter strike source comes in second, i've spent so many hours of my life playing that.

Command and conquer tiberian sun was legendary.

It never really did it for me, i didn't like the look of the characters or their names, and from that point i could just never really get in to it
