Gainward 7800 GTX here I come :)

Hey there guys...

Just sold my XTPE and decided the 7800GTX is for me. Still not sure whether I would like SLI or not.. Im gagging to try it but Im sure I need a bigger TFT to give the cards their justice. (1280x1024).

Anyway, I toying with which card(s) to buy.

I have found a Gainward Golden Sample one that is 470/1300 default for only £387 does anyone know anything about Gainward to push me away from them?

heard micro direct where **** lol but I have only had one dealing with them and it wasn't too bad just couldn't get my stuff sent to a different delivery address and the courier didn't turn up an stuff loooool but seems like it would be a nice card congrats

Well since we're mentioning names when we shouldn't be *somewhere one might dabble* has a cheap innovision one. Don't bother buying with high core clocks; I bought the cheapest one at the time of release (Gigabyte) and it seems to be one of the best air clockers around.

I am happy with my Galaxy units I got although Scorchio's (purchased from same place same time) seem to clock higher than mine .

Wait to see Dazboots benchies - he's got eh XFX Xtreme series which are the highest clocked units (stock clocks) around.

id really push everyone to buy bfg cards at the moment as the lifetime warranty isnt something to be scoffed at, and unlike pny's old claims its actually a lifetime as with the dfi boards...

i bought two seconds hand items from both dfi and bfg tehy both broke and i got brand new replcaments for both

Only thing that slightly annoyed me about my gainward 6800GT was the non reference mounting holes, so i had to mod my waterblock, but i cant deny the cards for overclocking, i managed to get mine (guaranteed to Ultra speeds) for £30 than any 6800GT was at the time , has worked great ever since i got it. Cooling was a bit loud, dunno what the 7800GTX solution is like, but stick water on it and they rock.

EDIT - stop mentioning the names guys, i think phil would rather he didnt have to ask you to not post them, i think we should all really appreciate the work phil does with the shop and this forum, and the least we can do it not post names of his competitors.

After my ordering problems I have lumped for the BFG 7800gtx.

Its a little more expensive but I think that warranty may come in handy (not that any of us will have the same card in 6 months time, let alone longer!).

I just fear that I have ordered 3 Gainward cards what with my cocking up the order and the error messages I got.

Yeah it wasn't that much more 25quid or so, and for 450/1300 stock i thought id go for it. Can't wait.

On the subject of the 7800, it seems the ram really is overclockable mad. I mean it's rated at 600, but people get it to 1350 at least. Are nvidia being conservative with it?

675 is a pretty good overclock from 600 I'll agree (I can get 685-690 ). They probably left some headroom for the 7800ultra, which I'm guessing will use the same RAM chips.

Grov, did you go for the gainward gtx? Golden sample or not?

Also, what clocks you getting from it? and what card have you upgraded from? How you finding the the gtx?

Me and scorchio have upped the volts to 1.5 and pumped the ram up to 1400 (700) does go higher but with mixed results.

Watercooling is required for 1.5v and suggest use OCZ ram sinks on the ram situated on the rear of the card.
