Hi guys,

Been trying my hand at overclocking said cpu with system specs as mentioned in my sig and I seem to have reached a wall at 3.1 Ghz. I'm pretty sure the chip can go further as I've had it up to 3.3 Ghz but it wont load up windows, only up to the bios stage of things. I'm sending 3.2 V through my mem dimms (PC3200)with the OCZ rambooster and 1.68 V through the cpu. Got the multi at x15 and the HTT at 215 with the tightest memory timmings possible at 1T.

Never was any good at overclocking and this is my first AMD which kind of like compounds my problems :( Any tips anyone? At the moment my best Aquamark score is 78k I kind of like expected 80k plus without tweaks. My P4 3.2 @ 4 Ghz could get 74K not bad for a £160 cpu.

You might have to play with the HT and up the FSB for better results, but you'll probably find thats the limit - @ 3.1g it produces a ridiculous amount of heat and the GT will be brought to its knees. Check the evap temps and the cpu temps and let me know what they are. For benchmarking this is where the Baker and Chily1 blocks excel. It is possible to tweak a few things but stability then becomes an issue. Check this screenshot, its from a customer of mine who bought a GT recently.

Na i disagree, id say its ur volts m8..

u maybe like me.. owning a board that lacks a good vcore option, as ive only managed 3.2 stable @ 1.65/1.7v

Just waiting for my DFI to be deliverd for some chip frying action... :D

The msi k8n neo2 plat will give a maximum I have found so far of 1.9vcore so he still has some room on his mobo for more volts :) oh yeah thats using a beta bios 1.36

So whats the maximum volts I can 'safely' send 24/7 through my poor unsuspecting FX-55 then?

Thats not what ive found. I can screenshot mine at 3.5Ghz with 1.9v. Its Super Pi stable at 3.3ghz using the 1.55v default volts + 13% = 1.75v

If i bump it upto 1.55v + 18% = 1.83v it becomes less stable and wont complete the test. I run folding 24/7 @ 3.25ghz @ default volts + 13%. If i bump it upto 18% at the same speed it reboots after about 5-10mins. The evap temps at 3.3ghz benchin are about -57 too :)

I think thats the limit for this kind of cooling. You would need todrop the temps a lot more to get more speed out of this chip by using cascade or better.

Tell you what just send it to me and I will give it a thrashing under my r507 mach2 :D
Well I would but my mum always told me not to give my toys to kids I dont know.

By the way guys, I followed all your advise and I'm now @ 3.2 stable. I got it to 3.3 and windows even loaded but I couldn't get it stable.

Thanks all.

Nice going glad to hear you got it sorted mate that will be the next chip for me or just save for the 57 lool

What voltage and fsb are you using now??

Been fiddling for a long time now and this is all I can manage stable, the prommy's taking a battering, -27C idle;

Update; I'm running a lower multi (12) and higher fsb (267) to get 3.204 Ghz now. The Mach II is a bit happier now, idle -32, load -24 Vcore still @ 1.8 V

Still sounds a lot to me. Mines @ -57 @ 3.2ghz 100% load, and -60 with the window open. Have you got the fans on Turbo?

My controller has a mind of its own, it very rarley listens to me :mad: Like I posted in another thread, my controller is very slow to respond to changes in fan speed, so I'm forced to keep it at normal speeds.

nice clocks mate, get those side panel off ur mach2 and get a extra fan in there 2 help on evap temps :D . and ave u had a chance 2 get hold of a OCZ booster yet mate? then u will c that ram fly!!

Yup got one mate, mad little things, sending 3.6 V through that memory I bought from you (2 X 512 MB Twinmos Winbond UTT) @ 1T 2-2-2-5 :cool: Here's some results;
