Futuremark today announced 3DMark Sky Diver, a new DirectX 11 benchmark test designed to test Laptops and Mid-Range PCs.

3DMark Sky Diver will be the ideal test for benchmarking systems with mainstream DirectX 11 graphics cards, mobile GPUs, or integrated even graphics bridging the benchmarking gap between the Notebook friendly Cloud Gate benchmark and the Enthusiast oriented Fire Strike benchmarks.

Sky Diver will come as a free update to all current and future 3DMARK owners and will even come as part of Futuremarks free 3DMARK basic edition.

Jukka Mäkinen, Futuremark CEO stressed that benchmarking need not be for only those with high performance systems, saying;

“Some people think that 3DMark is only for high-end hardware and extreme overclocking. Yet millions of PC gamers rely on 3DMark to choose systems that best balance performance, efficiency and affordability. 3DMark Sky Diver complements our other tests by providing the ideal benchmark for gaming laptops and mainstream PCs.”

Sky Diver will be shown in full at Computex 2014, June 3-7, and will be on show at the ASUS, MSI, GIGABYTE, Galaxy, Inno3D, and G-Skill booths. We expect to hear further details and a release date then. For now we can look at Futuremarks trailer, which is shown below.

As we can see in the video above, the benchmark follows a wingsuited woman skydiving into a mysterious, uncharted location. This scene is brought to life with tessellation, particle effects and advanced post-processing effects and simply looks fantastic, which is always a good quality for a graphical benchmark to posses.

I look forward to seeing more of this benchmark in the future, and we should be seeing it in future Overclock3D reviews when this benchmark is released to the public.

What do you guys think of Futuremarks newest Benchmark? Do you think it was a necessary addition to 3DMARK's range of tests? Please post your thoughts below.
