So here is his delima...

His first, and current mother board is a ABIT IC7... yeah i know, pentium, but recently he has decided to move to AMD 64.

Here's the catch, he loves his stable IC7, but has heard ABIT+AMD 64 isnt a good combo. And since he knows ASUS is a great stable board (dont worry, he doesnt plan to OC) he is thinking about going ASUS, but would rather go ABIT if it was equally fine. So he needs to know, IS ABIT+AMD 64 bad? Should he say hell no to the abit and roll ASUS? PLEASE help! :)

im only familiar with the socket A, abit motherboards and from what ive seen they are excellent and i dont see how that is going to be much different in A64.... but also be aware that abit dosent really have a big position in the amd 64 market... getting the asus will be great because they are more known in the 64 market, but i dont think it will make a difference.

make sure you get a board with an nforce chipset dont get the via one with the abits

A short while ago i purchased an Abit+A64 combo, and after reading all the problems with the boards on the Abit forums, i canceled my order even before the board had got to me. Everybody hated the boards.

Asus seemed to be better, but still wern't without their problems - but i decided to not take the risk and stick with Intel a bit longer.

Tell me, is you friend wanting to get an AGP board or a PCI-E one?

I dont know where you get that AMD 64+ABIT Bad from but i would just take a wild guess and say : Wrong

There is a Mainboard from ABIT called the Fatality which got realy good reviews.

But to tell you something about my ASUS Board (A8N-SLI DELXUE), it is probably the best mainboard i have ever had. Its stable, it overclocks almost as high as a DFI and still runs stable and the stuff that came with it was just amazing.

So i would say that he schould go with the A8N-SLI from ASUS but if he wants a good ABIT there's definately a very good one called Fatality.

Abit Nf4 boards are good , Asus NF3 boards arent that great.

If he wants NF3 boards then its either MSI or DFI which gets my vote.

If he is willing to upgrade to pci-express , then DFI, Epox , the new Sapphire and Dfi RX boards are the ones which get my vote of confidence.

For stability , MSI is usually ahead of ASUS most of the time.
