Frag switches back to Nextel

Well since Sprint and Nextel joined about a year ago or so now, they FINALLY got around to making their first hybrid phone (meaning it works on both networks at the same time... voice & data is on the Sprint network, walkie-talkie is done on the Nextel iDEN network). I picked up a pair of these phones, one for me and one for my girl (so we could chirp each other :p both of us were currently Sprint customers, and I had previously been a Nextel customer before the merger). I must say I'm happy with the decision. It makes me realize exactly how much I don't use all of the extra features of a "fancy" phone. I don't use it to listen to music, take pictures, look at pictures, surf the web, or watch tv. I use my phone for.... talking on the phone and sending text messages. Imagine that!

Anyhow. Impressive little phones we got, they work great and have the dependability of the Sprint coverage area and the 1337ness of Nextel's walkie-talkie feature.

**Mines a bit thicker as it comes with the extended battery which is honkin'.

Anyone in the states here on Nextel? If so hit me up with ur DC #.

I would expect the UK to be well covered with cell service lol. You have to keep in mind that your entire country is the size of our biggest state, of which we have 50 :) It's hard to cover that much area. Sprint does a pretty darn good job however.

How about cos BT rule basically the UK phone network. Mobile, Internet or land line. Who you think operates the switch boards?

Other companies just rent/buy what they need from them.

Yes it effects Internet and land line a lot more than mobile, but they're still basically in charge.

(Im not taking cable into account here before some smartass mentions NTL and the like)

its not the switch boards that provide the coverage.

Is the walkie-talkie thing called push-to-talk? Think i seen something about that on the tv. But as usual the UK will get it 8 billion years later.

Sprint/Nextel blow in my area. I know a lot of people who have had it. They never have service, when you call people a lot of times all circuits are busy, and they just overall suck lol. But I do like the chirp feature.

Guess its just my area though

Verizon ftw :p

OK off topic enough boys and girls

That walkie-talkie things sounds pretty damn good Frag - is it free?

Yeah mate, all service plans have unlimited free walkie-talkie :) Nextel is the pioneer of walkie-talkie phones, the only one that guarantees a solid digital connection to any Nextel subscriber in the states in less than 1 second. I love it, always have, always will :) The coverage is subpar however which was a major drawback when they were there own company and you had to get ur voice/data from their network as well. With Sprint's voice/data coverage it works out nicely! You can still lose your radio coverage though as it's still obviously on the Nextel network, but if you can't chirp you can almost surely place a call.

Yeah, it's considered a push-to-talk service. Other companies like Verizon and Cingular have tried to implement PTT but have failed miserably because their network isn't fast enough / capable to give that quick <1sec connection like Nextel can (this is because Nextel actually designed their network around PTT, and not standard voice/data like all other carriers). Even Sprint tried it before they bought Nextel and their PTT was horrible too. Nextel PTT FTW TBH OMGWTFBBQ!

Yup, it really varies by area. Back home in WA state I had to have Verizon because they were the only ones that gave me service up at my river cabin. Where I am now is a different story though, the call quality completely sucks around here on Verizon. My mom and dad both still have V and wow, I hate it.

The most reliable networks in these parts are Sprint/Nextel and AT&T/Cingular.
