First Time Builder

Hey everyone, I am new to the forum and after watching many of TTL videos I decided it was about time I joined. I have never build a computer and do not really understand the concept of how or why to overclock and some other minor stuff, but I am learning slowly. The rig I am trying to build is for gaming and just basic programs for school, there is a possibility of using Photoshop or Flash. Being a console gamer I finally decided that I join the PC world. I am hoping for this rig to be able to run games like Fallout, Skyrim, MMOs, and possibly FPS like Crysis and Battlefield. I have a rig I planned and was wondering if some of the forum members would give me their opinions and thoughts. If it helps, I want to keep it under 1500 USD and I most likely will not be buying anything now or in the next month it is a project I hope to finish by October 2013.

As for the build this is what I choose, but have not bought anything yet.

I am open to any opinions or changes and hope to hear from the members. I think I should also share that for some reason I like for the parts to "flow" with the overall color scheme as for my parts I want to stay in the Black/Red I hope it is not a hassle, but it is just a habit of mine that is why I was thinking of waiting for the new Gigabyte Mobos to launch because of the green and giving it a matching GPU. So I thank you all for your time and your thoughts. P.S I do plan on SLI/CrossFire in the future. Thank you.

welcome to the OC3D forums.

glad you lend a shortcut, but please edit your post with what parts you need.
some members just won't help out, if you didn't take the time to list your build.
and you'd like to have the most input with your choices as possible.

You listed one ssd and no hdd... You only want 128gb of space? Lol

You can get win7 on Ebay for cheap. I got my ultimate edition for 100$(non oem)
Drop down to a m65 mouse if possible. I love mine and the m95 isn't all that much better for FPS. It's more of a MMO mouse. M65 is a FPS mouse.

Psu: Go for the non ax(i) edition. No point is wasting money and something that won't make a difference. Seasonic is also very good as well. for Xfire/SLI you only need 750watts.

Monitor: For an extra 30$ you can get the Acer236hl over the one you choose. It will have much better picture quality.

For $1500, this is what I would build.

Id use a Haswell i5, a MSI G65 Gaming motherboard, the best power supply on the market (Seasonic Platinum 660), an excellent case at an excellent price (HAF 912), plenty of RAM for your photo work, roomy Samsung SSD and 1TB spinning drive and a GTX670.

GTX670 is faster than a 7950. Nothing wrong with that case either. Yeah its not high end and its been around a while but its still well built with plenty of room.

Mmm my friend 670 is not faster lol. I've seen recent benchmarks and it's lost basically all games to it.

I still say upgrade the case...

These are from HardOCP's articles where they take each game and try all the top video cards for maximum playable settings. These are the most accurate ways to compare games and video cards a because they use actual in game play and not canned benchmarks and spend an entire article reviewing and working on just one game.

The GTX670 is 18% faster in Metro Last Light

The GTX670 is 21% faster in Bioshock Infinite.

The GTX670 is 10% faster in Tomb Raider.

The GTX670 is 23% faster in Crysis 3

The 7950 is 8% faster in Hitman Absolution.

The GTX670 is 9% faster in Far Cry 3.

GTX670 is 30% faster in Assassins Creed 3

I am sorry for not responding so quick, but I thank every one of you greatly and I will see how to work in your suggestions.

This is a really nice build, I did not think I could get a 4th Gen CPU for a better price than the one I choose, but will this 4670K be a good choice for current and future games.

It's always best to get the most CPU horsepower that you can afford so yes, the 4670k would be a great choice for current and future games.
