First Car... what do you think?

Right, after viewing the old girl last week I made an offer. My offer was accepted and I am now the proud owner of a 1983 Ford Capri LS. She is in pretty much mint condition.

I even have the reciept of purchase. The Capri is my dream car and it is a dream come true to have one for my first. I know someone on here who also shares the same kind of view on the Cappers. Images below are from the advert.

I shall get some images of me and her and maybe a video of that amazing Pinto engine reving later on. She has cost me quite a lot and I am sure she will cost me a lot more in the months to come. But hey, it isthe 40th year of the Capri.. might as well celebrate. :)

Note: The images make her look orange but she is very red in real life.

Mmmm, I love her! :D

What a stunner mate. An absolute awesome choice. Subtle body kit too.

Just a personal pref but I'd spray the wheel caps silver to match the rest of the rims.

Watch the back end in the wet btw ;)

Thanks Jimbo, I knew you would appreciate this. How is the 2.8i?

I have never been a fan of body kits I like everything original but the skirt on the front just looks like it "should" be there so I am happy. :)

The alloys are from the 2.8i Special.. I might change them to the Lasers RS alloys as I find them better looking.

Will I be seeing you at the Capri show on the 27th of September? :p

Looks really clean mate, not bad for a first car :p

Not sure if it will be an easy drive for a first car but hell :D

Insurance must be a chunk?

awesome car mate, love it.

Had many many cars in my time from the down right awful to Mercs and BMW's and I honestly say you can't beat having a classic like that. I've pretty much given up on the whole new car thing (Wife won't have anything but modern) and I much prefer to buy an old un and have some fun.

Good on you

Thats going to be your first car......

Make sure you keep you mums and dads telephone in you pocket at all times when driving it. That to much for a new driver !!!

Lovly car though and you insurance will kill you big time.

Well, insurance is a bit of a pain to tell the truth. It will cost me £2000 for it. Ha, now you know why I have been so quiet around here... work work work.

I took her out last week and blimey she is heavy. The tires are huuuge which doesn't help the steering.

I am a huge fan of classic cars not too keen on modern ones since I feel they have lost style. But hey at least they won't break down every 5mins.

She will be my new project. The pinto engine in her at the moment has only done 50k miles (got all the MoTs to prove it). A very lucky find if you ask me.

haha, she is 8 years older than me. :o

Thanks for the replies! Me, Dad and a mate are picking her up on Thursday night with a trailer (has no tax) and then I shall get some videos. The Pinto sounds sooooo amazing. I have never heard a small engine sound so unbelievably beefy in my life.

Anywhoo, I better stop talking because I can go on forever about Capris.

Insurance will be a batard on it :P

Old car, New Driver and quite "powerful".

If you can afford the insurance then go for it.

May i just suggest you take it slow in rainy weather in that thing because the back ends tend to spin out very very easily.

I know how they drive as i owned one and it never happened to me luckily but it did to a mate of mine who all so owned one. Mine how ever did have a much larger engine.

Personally i would never on this earth recommend a car like that as a first car. a nice little 1 Ltr would always be recommend over such a car esp as a first car.. I know my sons first car when hes old enough will be bought by me and it will be a small slow car.

and get rid of the dice youll look like a complete !!!!!!! with them ....

See the thing is I don't just want a car to go from A to B. I love engines and engineering so it will also be a project to me.

Believe me when I say this is not a powerful car. It is a 1.6L buuuut only has 88BHP. I know this is more than a 1.0litre Corsa etc. but it is also very heavy. The chassis is designed for the V6 Essix engine after all.

For me this was the only choice for a car. I want to be under the bonet. I don't want to be like the people at college who get a plastic french car and thats that.

She is difficult to drive mind you.. but hey? You all drove these kind of cars when you were young. Why can't the next generation? :D

Edit: LOL, yeah.. the die are not staying I promise.

Edit2: Also, the local pub has a classic car club which I have been invited to. The Capper is not just a car to me. So so so much more! But none the less you like? :)

I heard stories about when they was used as police cars, the drivers would actually fill the boot of the car with bricks just to keep the back-end from sliding out lol.

But yes, the weight is ALL at the front. Absolutely sod all at the back, so be careful when trying to take on a nimble little Fiesta or something round a roundabout. You'll more than likely end up batting them off the road with ur backside :p

Yeh baby :p

excellent well im sure it wills serve you will just listen to my real advice about the spin outs. its no joke when it happens. happened to me once in a xr3i when i was in Germany and i ended up facing the opposite way i was going (in snow) but when it happened to my mate it took him a few weeks to get over it in his capri.

I will suggest you take advance driving course for that car btw. it will drop your insurance buy about £500+ all so to add it will be a real good learning expreance for yourself.

best to be safe than sorry.

All so another thing it being a classic car get a tracker fitted or a real dammed good alarm and immobiliser and this will drop you insurance as you now have a twoc'er car.

Thanks for the advice, Mayhem! :)

I shall be fitting security straight away. As well as a few other mods to the ignition which means only I will know how to start it.

Since she is my dream car and I am not going to be a dangerious driver. haha, don't have to show off since she does it for me. ;)

+1 on the advanced drivers course. I've done a two day course, but didn't get to finish and do the exam due to illness. However, there is some fantastic advice and it really teaches some superb things about driving, highly recommended.

We all say we won't go fast, but inevitibility happens and you do. I do drive fast in my car, but only in places I feel safe and in control and I'm not endangering other people (or myself for that matter). The worst thing about the road is other drivers frankly, you will be amazed at what people think they can do on the road!

Sweet. I got so much grief when I bought my dream car. It needed some work and was saving for it - had so much "what's happening with that car" that I sold it for around what I paid for it. Never driven since, cba.

Definitely do the advanced thing, it's a matter of days and u get the discounts - marvelous.

U have to retake the advanced thing ?

Nice Car, and insurance is pretty cheap also. I paid £2000 last year (first year) 3rd Party F&T, On my own name, everything. On my Fiesta.

Renewed it last week to take effect on the 16th, from another company, Down to £1500 Fully Comp, On My own.

I strongly suggest doing pass plus, as how ever much you think you are a good driver, it's the others plus more experience is priceless.

what a bunch of girls.

*ooooh its raining must get out and learn how to drive*

THATS what Id be doing!!!

pukka car though dude, big respect from me.

lol tim, my dad had a capri many years back and im still in love ten years later it was metallic blue, having driven a 68' mustang fastback and more modern cars such as the 350z and 370z the feeling is just not the same in a new car, i prefer old cars, and i am saving up for a 69 charger , im gonna get a cheap car for my first car and then after been driving for a few years im gonna go to the charger, that way i can eat food after paying the insurance.
