Finally on a vapochill!!

Right... The vapochill is installed and....on!

Before I get silly happy, the temps dont seem to be as low as I was expecting. The LCD display says -28, but my Windows based software says the CPU is at 22degrees. Thats no better than stock cooling...

When I`m done here, will disassemble and make sure the evap is making full contact with the CPU, tho I did try a full assembly, then take the evap off to check for thermal paste on it... and it was fine.

(a cautiously chuffed) Kenny :)

I would ignore the windows sensor, with the temps of a vapochill they normally report incorrectly, and all the insulation and dielectric grease dont help either.

My sensor reports 268C on the CPU at the moment lol.

With the 939 head kit it is pretty hard not to get decent contact as long as you have screwed down all the corners equally so the evap is sitting properly.

As long it was sitting fine when you checked it and you installed it the same again then i bet it will be fine, just ignore the sensor and get overclocking.

LOL.... I got similar temps with some temp monitoring software- The BIOS says 28, and so does Speedfan, obviously.

:)

Before I start OC`ing...I wanna state that if I dont hit 3GHz, I`ll prob sell the vapo.

Also... I got a Winchester core and...no cold-bug, if I really am at -29 :) so chuffed.

Thats the end of the braggin, coz most of the folk here still own me for OC and temps. :)

Am I supposed to hear what sounds like liquid bubbling from the compressor?

My Tagan PSU also seems pretty warm, although the fans are spinning very slowly, suggesting the load on it is low...

Thanks,

Kenny

-29 is just the evapourater head its not cpu itself .

just out of interest what model of vapo is that mate .

Its a PE. Standard R134 gas.

I read that the LCD display reads lower than the CPU as they`re measuring different points.

Kenny

It is normal to hear liquid noises from a unit, usually means it isnt under much load.

The load on your PSU will depend on what you set the CC to, if you set a low hold temp then the compressor will work flat out all the time = heavier load on PSU than if you set a higher hold temp and faster fans.

The vapochill should put a decent load on the Tagan, especially under load, so make sure the fan speeds up appropriately, dont want it to go bang (pretty sparks but not pretty effects trust me ;))

If you have a look over at asetek's site, you can get to a link for their load to temp chart, and if you look at the SE product and then click the 'see more' link you'll get the chart with PE on it as well as SE and XE temps...

Never mind, just hope I don't get in trouble for the link...

http://www.asetek.com/filarkiv/Products/graph_vc_family.jpg

On that chart you'll see that at -29 you're sitting around -19 on the core, and pulling less than 20w of heatload...that's normal if you aren't oc'd much and not loading the cpu...the wattage of the cpu is based on load...

I've found that chart is AMAZINGLY accurate for cpu gpu etc...i'm running a PE on my X800 and watching the temp readings, which are pretty accurate on the card, they match up with the charts indications very closely...

Handy chart if you're interested in your cpu temp, but really you'll find that you tune to your oc, not your temp, like on air and water...

Thanks guys :) I am seriously glad of help like this, would be well up the creek without it :)

Kenny

Heh heh heh... the guys on DPC are asking for pics as well.... I`m using the asetek case atm, I wanted to see if everything was gonna work, plus not having a comp was driving me crazy. Still to have the Chieftec modded for the Vapo... can post some pics I did take of the vapo install, but the really juicy ones are still to come. :) Dont worry...they`ll be along soon(ish)

:)

Right. Because it looks like the CPU is maxxed and I dont really wanna spend more £££ trying to hit 3GHz+, thats me back on stock air. Might sell the vapo, dunno. It is definately working properly tho, when I took off the evap, it was ice cold to the touch, so I do think its the CPU.

The temp monitors didnt help my confidence much, and the boot times were ridiculous.

well worth it then

yea, great value for money! I got....0 extra Mhz! If I can sell it for £270 tho, It`ll be ok. I`ve learned from having it tho, and I think thats good :)

The hydra-TEC`s? After Stockys findings with non Asus/XFX cards... that might have to be adjusted.

If I put a TEC on my CPU, would have the same problem with temp monitors as before, tho If I do sell the phase, I WILL be finishing a watercooling loop of some kind, so a TEC might appear.. :)

Kenny

Have been looking at that hydra-TEC idea, and the price to performance ratio is lookin a bit poor. Only one way to find out tho....

I think, atm, I got 2 options: Swap my Winchester for a Venice or sell my vapo and try this out. Chances are, Skinnys Frozen Nipples will offer better cooling for a similar price. His cooling gear is also more stylish :)

Kenny.

Dont bother with TECs, waste of time IMO, you are better off with chilled water or true phase change, with todays cores you need pretty large TECs to get worth while temps, and with the TEC PSU etc you might as well go the whole hog and get really low temps.

I would go for the Venice, then you can always move onto hydra-TEC if that doesnt work out.

G

Swapping for a Venice is prob the best idea. The hydra-Tec idea aint the usual way to use a Tec, might all go to the shape of a pear, but will be interesting. In a morbid, car-crash kind of way.
