Hi, so I have no clue where this goes but my friend wanted me to check for him, so here goes. This happened to hima couple of months ago, he got scammed out of EDIT: $200 worth of Amazon.com gift certificates. He gave them to some guy who said hed send hima 7900GT. I think it happened in APril and he reported to case to the FBI's Internet Crime thing. THe worst part is the guy ended up giving him all amd eup info for his adress, number, city. So the only info that my friend had wa shis Gmail account which has been cancelled and that the guy deposited the gift certificates into the account. Is there anything we can do?

I got scammed about a year back.
Traded my ram with this guy on ebay for some different ram.
Anyway I sent mine off and never recieved his part of the deal.
His ebay account was gone but I still had an address that I sent my ram off to.
Anyway I tried to get hold of a number but he was ex directory, so used one of those websites that list everyone in the area (goverment thing) and I managed to get hold of the next door neighbours address. Anyway they wernt ex directory so I gave them a call to confirm that the person living next door was the person I sent the ram to and they confirmed it was.
So since I couldnt contact him myself I rang the police and they told me he had been involved with crimanal activity in the past and were straight round there.
Somehow I managed to get hold of his phone number (cant remember how) and spoke to his mother who said she would have a word with him and sure thing in the next few days they turned up at my house.
Now I still had his ram but thought since the police were involved I best send them back.
I was lucky that the police were intrested in something only worth £150 but it looks like if the FBI dont take any intrest you could be screwed mate.

If it ain't drugs or large volume theft the FBI doesn't care.
Personally I've had a few people try and scam, things like the google maps thing make it alot easier (the one were people on a forum can add where they live)
Msg the guy closest and ask him if he'd be interested in making a 10% cut.
So on and so forth.
Someone in las vegas who scammed me got a large showing of people from XS at there door.

Erm, don`t mention the fbi again, it makes the hairs on the back of meh neck stand up on end >.<
Anywho, there HAS to be something on the eBay network that handles these sort of occurances - there has to be a channel people follow. the only reason I say that is that I bet 1000s of people a week probably has something "done to them" and I would imagine most of them contact eBay - to which u`r gonna need a department for handling such matters. These people I`d hope would be able to steer u in a correct direction.
Failing that, and knowing firstly that u obviously don`t hold them in the slightest way responsible - BUT - phone u`r ISP c/s and see if they have any contactable agencies who may helpful. - those 1000s of people I mentioned would probably mindlessly call their ISP - so - I`m thinking they`d have some-kind of resources.
