Fan sensor pin

For a semi unimportant fan, say one covering harddrives where u just want flow of somekind, u reckon it`s viable to plug one that has no sensor wire into a mobos 3 pin connector and just tell it to vary the voltage depending on sys temp ?

I appreciate u`d have to disable rpm warnings.
