Yes... I'm really beginning to hate wireless... Anyways, I seem to have a curse or something, because I've had no less than 3 routers (I think it might be 4) wireless routers apparently go bad on me. The latest one (and I'm pretty sure most of them, though I can't remember) has gone from pretty much never dropping and having download speeds of about 100-200kB/s (less than my connection is capable of, but still reasonable) to dropping sometimes up to 5 times a day (in a time range of maybe 7 hours) and having download speeds of 10-50kB/s, the average being 20kB/s. Now I'm sure you can agree... that is utterly pathetic.
Comparative SpeedTest shots (1st is wired connection, 2nd is wireless)
I think we can all agree that is quite a difference! Now it's been a while since I've had reasonable wireless (like, 2 months now) so I can't remember what I used to be able to get (heck, for all I know that top image is from my wireless, I can't remember cause I snatched it from the bandwidth thread) but I think it was at least 1500kb/s.
On to the part of other routers dying... My first one was a Motorola. Twas reasonable I think. Kept me going from a place that was farther from the computer room than I am now. Later I move to my room, works fine at first. Then one day it just stopped working. And not just wireless, it couldn't hold any connection. I mean, the computer would technically be "connected" according to windows, but you couldn't access the Internet at all. Second one was a Netgear. Pretty much the same happened to it. Well I thought so anyways. I recently tested it and it worked fine, except that it got the same speeds as the current state of the Belkin I'm using now. My third was a Compusa. Much the same happened to it, though manifested more in lots of a drops and slow speed.
Now you may scoff at the "choices" in router brands (choice... not really when it comes to my dad) but I find it hard to believe that we would get 4 craptacular routers in a row. Any ideas?
