Hi all,

Current running a 5930K & ASUS X99 WS-E board, but to go smaller,Quieter & possibly faster (currently E-ATX!)

Requirements
1. Extreme Silence = NO AIO/WAtercooling
2. Compact, but able to fit a 1080Ti Aorus
3 Optical Connector
4. Parts must be from Overclockers UK
5. i Wont be overclocking, if anything UnderVolting for Noise.
6. Aiming for <23DbA at full load at 1m

Use:
Gaming at 3440x1440 & 4K, Programming

this was my first attempt
1 x Seasonic Prime Gold 650W 80 Plus Gold Modular Power Supply= £122.99
1 x Fractal Design Define Mini C Micro-ATX Case - Black= £74.99
1 x Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 PC4-25600C16 3200MHz Dual Channel Kit = £158.99
1 x MSI B350M Mortar AMD 350 (Socket AM4) DDR4 Micro ATX Motherboard= £88.99
1 x AMD Ryzen 7 Eight Core 1700X 3.80GHz (Socket AM4) Processor - Retail= £368.99
1 x be quiet! Dark Rock 3 CPU Cooler= £59.99
1 x Samsung 960 EVO Polaris 250GB M.2 2280 PCI-e 3.0 x4 NVMe Solid State Drive= £119.99
1 x Microsoft Windows 10 Pro 64-Bit DVD - OEM (MS-FQC-08929)= £147.95

looking for thoughtsa suggestions & advice

im not sure about 8 cores on a B350 Motherboard. either...

Cheaper is better, but under £1500 would be nice but can go to 2K

I came up with the following list

https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/GBcJQV

specifically from overclockers, just to note, the Ryzen 1700 is £40 cheaper at amazon, and most things are generally cheaper elsewhere.

This is the link for the case, https://www.overclockers.co.uk/silverstone-kublai-sst-kl07b-midi-tower-case-black-ca-43g-sv.html

Reason for this case is due to the thickness and density of the noise dampening foam.

It does go over your budget of £1500, I'm not sure if your 1080ti is included in that price, so i bashed it in anyway.

cheers, Already have the 1080 Ti reason for going To OCUK was going to get them to build it, Save me the hassle.

only thing i not sure about is the PSU. i cant find reliable Evidence of DbA on the EVGA stuff. we use them at work & i think their pretty loud

the sea sonic is rated at <20DbA

i do love that case, but its not much smaller than my current system :(

I've had a couple of EVGA Power Supplies, the G1 1000W and 650W P2, they seem fine to me. If you are interested in Seasonic, that opens the door for Corsair as well, as they are just rebranded Seasonic units.

EVGA are rebranded Super Flower.

Mid way through writing this, Seasonic do Fanless power supplies. See new list below, apparently this will pull 419W so the 520W should be enough. It is however quite a premium to pay.

yeh was highly considering the 520W, but From research all Prime PSU give off <20dbA at full load

So i could get the Prime Gold for £122

oh also i currently have a 1300W superflower PSU its horrid for Noise. never again. Ever.

If you want a CPU cooler that's just as quiet as the Dark Rock Pro 3 but performs better and has an easier mounting system, consider the Thermalright Le Grand Macho RT. The heatsink is good enough to provide passive cooling for a stock (no overclocking) Ryzen CPU, but sadly you cannot buy it from OCUK. Noctua NH-D15S will perform better than the BeQuiet! and will be easier to mount, but the Dark Rock Pro 3 is sexy. I can't guarantee the Phanteks PH-TC14PE will fit in the Define Mini C, but it would also be slightly louder than the BeQuiet! so the additional performance might not be worth it to you.

If you go for a bigger PSU (1000W maybe), the fan should potentially delay spinning up for longer. I can't confirm that as I haven't tested it or seen it tested, but Corsair performed their own testing of the AX760 vs the AX1200 and found the 1200W PSU quieter when under heavy load (600W from dual GPU). That's a large investment, but it's an option if you have the money.

Make sure you don't populate the top fan mounts on the Fractal case. Keep the modular vents closed. Temperatures will be affected, but the added sound isolation should be worth it. I notice a large noise drop off when I close off my vents (Define R4).

Ditch any mechanical drives and go all SSD. The 5200 RPM drives aren't too bad, but the 7200 RPM ones are noisy when under load.

The 8-core CPU will be absolutely fine on your motherboard. It's a very solid board and would even handle an overclock.

If you want your memory to run at 3200Mhz, I would strongly suggest going for G.Skill Trident Z's (more expensive from OCUK but worth it if you want a higher change of 3200Mhz working) or buying from somewhere else and getting a kit of Flare X or a cheaper set of Trident Z's (no RGB LED's). Corsair CMK16GX4M2B32 v5.6 is rated to work at 3200Mhz by AMD, but not everyone has been able to hit the full 3200Mhz. Not many kits are rated for 3200Mhz at the moment. G.Skill Trident Z and Flare X are the go-to for Ryzen systems right now.
