Hya guys. I`ve bought new external monitor for my laptop but i can`t use full size of screen trough HDMI cable (here automatically comes some gaps near edges about 2cm from both sides and 1cm from top and bottom of the screen), trough D-SUB cable it works fine, but as you guys know this standard cable can`t guarantee the max quality from that kind of monitor. Specs: LG 24" widescreen LCD LED FullHD ... link -> http://www.lg.com/uk/it-products/monitors/LG-led-monitor-W2486L.jsp

So i just wanna know, where`s problem, if i`m changing just cables. with both cables i`m using max resolution (recomended)

Laptop:

Acer Aspire 5536

ATI Radeon HD 3200 videocard.

Windows 7 Ultimate

any suggestions?

Erm, correct me if I'm wrong, but given that both HDMI and DVI are digital, how is there any difference between the two? And if there is no difference, why bother sorting out HDMI?

yes HDMI and DVI the same, but i mean D-sub that blue connector.

this isn`t DVI

i`m sorting out why there`s difference between d-sub and digital connection (HDMI)

Sorry, not been thinking straight of late :P foolish error by me. Is the overscan set to 0% in CCC? For some monitors it defaults to a slightly higher value, it caused me no end of headaches with my brothers monitor...

Try closing the laptop lid. If it is open the resolution on the monitor will adjust to the same as the laptop screen, which is traditionally fairly low.

That blue connector is called VGA when connected for video.

If you're on Windows 7, try pressing Win+p and choose the third or fourth option. The fourth is equal to closing the lid of your laptop, in that it disables the laptop screen. The third gives you seperate images on laptop and ext screen, but is more stressing on the Graphics card.

If you're not on windows 7, the shortcut may be fn+F7.

i tried what you said about disabling lid, but its still not working :) thinking about to use that d-sub, or, as you said VGA cable.. with VGA cable i can use max resolution. Another solution is to use 1680 x 1050 resolution with HDMI cable, it uses all screen size, and looks good, maybe theres a problem in my videocard, maybe ATI Radeon HD 3200 dont support 1920 x 1080 resolution

how you think guys?

The card should be able to run that resolution as far as i can tell.

But what are you going to use that for? I ceratinly hope you aren't planning on gaming in that resolution on an integrated graphics like the 3200.

Maybe you should consider if you can actually use that resolution. Alternatively, can you actually tell the difference when using the VGA port? Try hooking that up. If you can't tell the difference, don't bother with the digital connection.

actually there`s a difference: with HDMI cable black looks more black, pictures looks deeper, text looks a little bit more blur and more black (webpages with black backrounds and white text is a little bit too strong for eye). I can see that the quality changes, but changes arent marginal, thinking to use both cables depending on situation (movies, multimedia ..or.. text reading, writing) (i`m using autobrightness option in LG monitor, it adjusts brightness automatically depending on rooms light) NO I`m not using for games. :) btw lots of byers said that touchscreen menu buttons on monitor are hard to use, i disagree with that.

If anyone is interested in my problem, i solved it a year ago, there was not correctly plugged in plug inside monitor to matrix panel.

I reattached it and there are no more signs about what i was complaining. It still works spot on for me, no complains at all.

Se we can mark this problem as SOLVED for other peaple to look for help! :)
