in windows setup, i accidently delited the partition on my external 500 gig hard drive, is there a simple, free, way to reverse this?

any help would be apreciated, thanks

and i'd like a program that would just do it, because my only other hard drive is only 80 gig, so it couldnt posibly store all the data off the 500 gig

is it posible, or will i have to redownload my 100 or so gig of music from scratch? :(

Firstly, i'm guessing you mean your legally 100gb of music :P

I had a quick google, you may be able to find something just here

I'm not sure I know of a program that can simply restore the partition to the disk it was deleted from. Usually they want to restore the files to another disk. I have used GetDataBack for NTFS and it worked a charm, it's not free though. Before using it I tried a free one and it was rubbish, it couldn't figure out the file names so I would have had to rename 1,000,000 mp3's again. Not too bad because they have ID3 tag info but there were other files too.

yep, 99.9% of that music came from CD's, that i actually own, the odd one were songs i downloaded legally from a website or two *cough*

is there no simple, free, way to restore a partition? :(

I`m sure there are tools out there that will do that. I`ve gotten a dos utility cd that has something on it I think. Hiren/UBoot or similar.

PV will know for sure.

File recovery stuff will do it too like Active Undelete (not free tho >.< ) It`ll search the whole drive and present u with possible partitions, then allow access.

i'm trying that testdisk

its searching, but it didnt find anything initially, is windows instalation partition deleter thing really that good..... :(

it worked,

i dont care if its not trustworthy, it worked

all my data is saved

i highly recomend it to anyone who needs to restore partitions...

its free

it works in command prompt

its reletively easy to use

and it does the job!

set it to recover

it needs a reboot

boot into windows

your drive works asthough it had never screwed up

ITS A MIRICLE PROGRAM!

well, not exactly, but its very helpful :)

@ the end of the day, u get to quote along the lines of Hannibal Smith from the A-Team "I love it when a plan comes together", with a hit of satisfactual smugness. Maybe even do a Snoopy dance.

In other words, if it worked - excellent :)
