expertise needed on these GPU's

Hi guys.. I'm building a rig and was considering getting either an MSI GTX 780 twin frzr, MSI r9 290 twin frzr or MSI r9 290x twin frozr??

Whts the better gpu? Obviously the r9 290x because its the tweak version but people say I should just get the r9 290 since the extra dollar on the r9 290x is not worth it, they said with a little tweak, a r9 290 is almost the same with the r9 290x.. even when playing games you won't see any difference.. is that true?

my opinion is always buy the best one you can afford and go from there. Saying a 290 can be tweaked to be the same as a 290x is correct but the 290x can also be tweaked to be more as well. When the 7xxx series was released for me it was a no brainer i went straight to 7970 with the plan to add another later. long story and 4 cards later i have the 2 7970 reference cards i have now and I've been totally happy with them.

Not worth getting the 290X over the 290 unless you are gaming at over 1080p.
There are no games at 1080p where having slightly more performance from the 290X would be noticeable, as both cards will give you more than enough FPS.

At 1440p you would start to get a slight noticeable difference, but even then it is only a slight one. 1600p and higher is where the 290X will show noticeable gains over the 290.
