Hi,

I can get a second 980 Matrix pretty cheap and wondered if my current PSU, is good enough and powerful enough to power the card in SLI?

Thanks,
Paul

Yes. That is an excellent power supply built by Superflower on their Leadex platform which is one of the best in the biz. A pair of GTX 980's at max load will draw around 500 watts total system at the wall so a quality 750 like that G2 will work just fine. You can get a 850 if you like a little extra headroom but the 750 will be plenty.

Brilliant!

My only other consideration is whether to keep the two 980's or sell them for a Titan X...

Do you think it's a realistic worry, or am I thinking it's worse than it really is?

Depends on what resolution you're running. 1080p? no 1440p+? I'd agree that 4gb might not be enough a couple of years down the line, much like how 3GB is ending up.

Well now I'm truly stuck!

I RMA'd my Matrix and have received a brand new replacement and in the mean time my partner has gone out and bought me a second for a (very) special occasion.

I now have two brand new Matrix cards sitting in my living room and I can't decide whether to use them or attempt to sell them to fund a Titan X...

Yeah youve got major problems. A pair of GTX 980's. Man your life really sucks.

Jesus dude, youve got a pair of totally bad ass cards! 4GB is still plenty of VRAM for 1440 and should be for a good while. Yeah there might be a game or two out there in the future that you might have to turn a setting or two down a notch to save some VRAM but for the other 99% youll be fine at least for a while. There are plenty of people out there with 3GB GTX 700 cards that are running 1440 with no problems.

Keep your set of 980's and enjoy the good life.

If you got'em, definitly use them until nVidia releases an HBM2 card next year or the year after. THEN sell them. :) 2 980s are going to crush the Titan X you would be able to buy from selling them now.

And at 1440p.... 2 980s is ample.

Why not just actually use them instead of all the messing around?

Gees, some people are never satisfied.

Why not HBM1 with AMD cards? Why wait till 2? Honestly i'd wait if I were the OP. The 980ti should be out. Prices will adjust, especially when AMD releases their cards. A 750watt would still be enough as well.
Edit: Should say 980ti will be out very soon. Next week June 2nd.

What he said. No reason to spend that amount of money when prices are about to adjust or even having the 300 series be a rabbit out of the hat and knocking Nvidia down a notch or 2.
