EU Commission proposes Chips Act to confront semiconductor shortages

I'll believe it when I see it, I've learned to generally never trust anything until it's infront of you as all too often it's all lip service.

Not to be "that" guy, but 45billion could be invested elsewhere into making life better for those desperate for it, not providing our luxuries. Some silicon is essential but there are much more priorities than that.

Aren't they currently building new TSMC plants and an Intel one?

Incentives for corporations instead of building the infastructure US needs to become 100 self reliant. It's just allowing Intel and TSMC free factories so they can still sell their microprocessors globally except to China. US needs more US only fabs, just like the EU is doing EU only fabs to prevent more worldwide economic slowdowns as the internal capacity is available.
