Error loading operating system ?

Error loading operating system is the display I get.

I have just installed my new IP35pro, e6750, and corsair memory. The MB is supposed to auto detect the sata drives and use the correct function for them (RAID 0)

When I booy up it detects the drives but fails on the loading of the OS. I tried a separate drive which seemed to load until it fell over (I was expecting it as it kaputt anyway).

I disconnected and reinstalled old MB. mem and drives and got the same error. After swapping back to my old sata cables it has now started up and is working ok - writing this on - it did say it had recovered from a serious error.

Anyone got any ideas?

No, not sure if I need to ? although I thought I might have seen a thread about this somewhere before but could not find it.

If thats what needs to be done (as in a fresh drive) I may just buy a new one.

In theory you shouldn't have to no. But ive swaped out the same drive between 3 different setups and every time it needed a format too work properly.

It booted and was usable, pretty stable too. Just slllloooow.

Roger, not gonna format just yet but will obviously have to consider it for the future.

Tbh I am due a resh install soon anyway so new drives might not be necessary.

Still not sure why it came up with the same problem when i went back to old setup and then worked when i swapped the cables?

So, you're booting windows which is installed on a RAID array?

What RAID chip is on the old and new MBs?

Remember when you installed windows you had to insert a floppy disk with RAID drivers, windows needs these to see the drives and install on them. I suspect it also needs them to boot the installation.

So, if the RAID chips have changed, then windows wont be able to boot.

You will need a re-install, or some way to put the new drivers into the old installation.

After having this same setup myself once I decided it's better not to install windows onto a RAID array, but instead install onto a single drive and just put the windows pagefile (virtual memory) and any games onto a RAID array (ideally of WD raptors if you could afford it).

Heck, even just switching mobo can cause boot failure due to driver problems.

^^ Could be what you have mentioned, the old chipset is ALI, but I am sure it says that the motherboard has automatic detection of RAID.

Just had a god read throught teh manual and it looks like a full fresh install is needed as it is intel or Jmicron sata drivers that I need.

How far did it get when booting? I suspect the RAID auto detection is working i.e. the RAID chip notices your drives and realises that are a RAID array. I suspect it notices there is an OS on the array and tries to boot. I suspect at this point windows loads the wrong RAID drivers and fails to boot.

I could be wrong.

A re-install will definately fix it.

Can you put RAID drivers on a USB drive or do you need a floppy... I've never tried a USB drive.

I should be able to install them on either a floppy or usb drive as the mb can boot from both, but i they need to be on a floppy for the F6 windows install bit.

Unfortunately I need to do a fresh install, as the sata drivers are incompatible
