Epic Leaving PCs Behind

I've never really got into PC gaming and would describe myself as a fairly hardcore 360 gamer so I can't really say it makes a big difference to me anyway. As Jim said nothing that good came from UE3 anyway.

Looking at the bigger picture of pc gaming, in comparison it sucks on a whole. There aren`t too many u can name that u keep going back to after a rip, and there are many that are over a year old (or are `newer` versions with a graphic pack or expansion).

Luckily, I`m happy with the small niche.

Then again, I`d buy nintendo for zelda and ps for ff.

Yeah not that fussed to be honest.. UT has never interested me for some reason.. Gave UT3 a bash and it didn't hook me in at all.. I get 6 games a year or so I reckon and maybe half for PC and half console (currently PS3) depending on the control system used.

As long as Steam / Valve stay and SiGames keep churning out my Footy Managers I'm happy :)... Oh yeah and EA keep me happy with some C&C goodness.

tbf i agree, UT3 sucked.

I play counter strike source, cod 4 and command and conquer generals (Y). They have had me hooked for ages. Nothing else has the same appeal.

cant say that i have ever benn to bothered with the unreal saga,as it just seems a bit odd to me.

@pat:do you play online with generals? If so then you will have to let me know your name so I can look for you once i have dug out my copy of gens and re-installed

I am heart broken.. UT was made for the PC... now it turns it's back and goes for the consoles!

Lost my respect.

I think you guys are missing the point here, at least to an extent. We're not talking about the Unreal series of games. We're talking about the engine, on which games such as Bioshock and Lineage II were based upon

After being an unreal tournament gamer for 8yrs (apart from UT3) - RIP UT tbh. There's plenty of other decent engines out there for the other games.

Reading between the lines I feel that this may be an unfortunate trend for the future. Given the amount of software piracy today software developers are obviously wanting to protect their IP and get full value for their invested time and money. PC's are just too much of a risk to IP and developers would want to stay away from anti-piracy measures like root-kits and the like. Especially after the recent balls-up's from Sony.

Porting straight to 'consoles' is deffo the safest route for developers to take, and one which I'm sure many more will look at very seriously in the long term. Furthermore, they aren't going to have to bother with coding for so many variables (i.e. pc hardware - low to high end); they simply have to ensure that it runs on the 2 to 3 current consoles - XBOX 360, PS3 and or Wii/PS2. It makes a lot of sense!

Most ports to consoles from PC games are very good now imho and better than they were a few years ago. I'll still stick to my PC for the mo' tho'

@ nepas i do indeed play online.. theres not many people nowadays mind.. You play zero hour or the original? I think my name is i-Sniperwolf... i couldnt be sure though, ill check in abit.

I wasn't defending it all, especially considering I've never played a game that runs (to my knowledge) on the Unreal Engine. It just seemed like most people were misunderstanding the article.

I don't see PC gaming lasting all that much longer, the boundaries from before where consoles could only play games and not do "stuff" email, web etc have gone. Consoles are much cheaper, the range of games is similar or greater, the input devices more varied than they used to. It's only a matter of time 'til Crysis becomes a flash style game on the web that you run on your PS9 and laugh about the poor graphics, but we've got to roll with it.

On the forums here I'm pretty sure around half of the members who are into thier gaming have a console (360, ps3) as well as thier pc.

annoyed, but... if they bring mouse and keyboard to fps games on the PS3/360 i don't see it as a loss..

that is the ONLY reason i'd chose an fps on a pc over a console nowadays...

all other games i'm starting to enjoy them on my ps3 now.. i say most..

yeh, mouse and keyboard for consoles it definately the way it should go tbh..

But then i guess, wont the whole technological advancements start to slow down? if the need for high spec gaming pc's is lost a large chunk of the market will dissappear.

I can see why ya say that but like Jim (I think it was Jim) said on last page games like Bioshock that use the UE could just use one of the other engines out there that are just as good.

Agree. Couldn't give a damn about UT, but I think the loss of the Unreal Engine could be bad news for PC gaming. I had never really thought about it before but when you read Tim Sweeny's 'controversial comments,' they're pretty accurate.
