I want to get back into the game but it's been so long and Everytime I try to play my settings are always reset to default I end up spending 2 hours to get them setup just right just so the next day they get reset. Really puts me off trying to play as much as I would love to fight this alien race

Did that. Still resets.
Although I did not change it to read only. How would I do that? Just right click on properties and hit read only? Or is it a different file?

Prettymuch the file you make the changes to, which i assume is FoV settings and maybe a few other things, then yeah just right click and read only ticked on.

For me the FoV is the only thing that resets every single time, control profiles stay the same.

Any idea where they store the config file? I can't find it anywhere in My Doc. or in the main game install folder.

I'd assume you could copy the complete folder out to make a backup

C:\Users\USERNAMe\AppData\Local\Frontier Developments\Elite Dangerous\Options

No idea if it is.
And that's why I stopped playing it! Having to redo everything from normal key mapping to axis mapping is such a pain. The default settings for my Thrustmaster are a joke imo

I've never had the game completely reset my bindings. I once had to redo them due to the file being corrupt and that caused weird behavior within the game. I really can't see how that would happen, must be something you're doing wrong like not backing up your settings file and reinstalling your Windows often.

The file is located in: "C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Frontier Developments\Elite Dangerous\Options\Bindings" and it's named "Custom.2.0.binds". Depending on the current patch though, the name can change slightly with the numbering.

Not doing anything wrong. Shouldn't have to make a backup for it anyways. It doesn't need to be messed with or updated. No game requires that much maintenance over bindings. I even made a backup before and it didn't care. I'm not the only one with this issue either
