Ecs & Msi

Now, I know my last posts lately have been quite the anti-OCing, but I'm looking to get some numbers on a worthy budget system...

Now, ECS and MSI, how are these as motherboards overall? Assume there is no need to overclock... Looking for overall stability...

Never used an ECS board on either platform, but I do own an MSI 875P. I personally have never had an ounce of grief from this board, and it has allowed my socket 478 2.8C to be overclocked to 3.5Ghz stable (I use this for everything including gaming and F@H), along with my other machines. But, the majority of peeps on here who have tried MSI will say the contrary. You didn't say which platform you were looking at, but I presume AMD. Further, imho MSI aren't a particulary budget priced product; here in Australia I bought my DFI expert for cheaper than I could buy the top of the line MSI board.

Given the choice i'd go for MSI. Despite having a few problems with previous MSI products, they are still in a different league to ECS and the support you get with MSI products is much better.

Hah fair enough... I actually wasnt looking for a comparison between the 2, just general feedback on them, but all that works =D

As for the platform, I was looking for one with the RS482 chipset for the integrated graphics, as the Intel GMA seems to get destroyed by both the ATI and nVidia integrated graphics chips, and as I didn't find too many boards with the nVidia chip (6100 or 6150 GPU), I did find ECS and MSI carrying RS482 boards for relatively cheap... (well, not sure on MSI price yet, but I know someone carries it)... and yes, AMD =D

I have had both a MSI and an ECS board. The MSI one was brilliant No faults with it. The ECS one had real problems when operating at 133 FSB. Lots of overheating, freezing and it wouldn't run without the side off the case. Was stable when it was reduced to 100 FSB, but then you lose 25% of your speed. Wouldn't buy an ECS again.

Here's the MSI boards I used:

3 x K7N2 Delta LIS2R

2 x 865PE Neo2 FIS2R

1 X K8N Neo2 Platinum

I overclocked the one's that I built for myself and my customers and I never had a problem with any of them.
