EATX12v for Asus Maximus Formula

Hiya,

I am halfway through installing an Maximus Formula, and have found that my P.S.U output doesn't have enough pins for the EATX12v power input. it says in the mobo's manual that you should only put an 8pin output into it, however just next to that it says

"do not forget to connect your 4pin/8pin EATX12v otherwise the system will not boot etc..."

which is a tad confusing. but the thing is that each output ( both 8 and 4 pin) have the same layout (ground at the top and +12v at the bottom). if i put a 4 pin output in will there not be enough power supplied, or will it just not power certain rails and leave parts of the board without power?

i have a couple of images, if you want them.

Thanks:worship:

Well you can only draw so much current from a wire so that is possibly why it requires dual 4 pin (8 pin) modules over a single 4 pin module.

There are conversion kits, but they're from 6 pin to 8 pin. I'm pretty sure they're the same configuration on the 8 pin though. (These kits are usually for PCI-e gfx cards, like the 9800GX2)

basing this entirely on my prevvious RoG Crosshair board, it can run with just 4 pins and not all 8, though I believe it may limit overclocking, if this is the case or not on the Formula I do not know as I have only tried using an 8pin AtX 12v rather than jut the 4 pin. As said a conversion kit reeally wont do that much. What sort of PSU are you rocking?
