Early overclocking results for AMD's RX 590 look promising

How come? Polaris has been pretty decent in terms of power consumption.

If those clocks are accurate it's actually quite a competitive product.

It's the boost it needs to beat the 1060 more often than not. It's a good thing. I don't think it'll be much worse in terms of power consumption

I kinda have a feeling that it is too late. This is how it was supposed to be years back at launch to give customers proper alternative. With Pascal, and Vega prices dropping now it needs to be dirt cheep to be viable.

The RX480 was in a much better position than the GTX1060 at launch (Roughly same performance for about £50 less), for about a week until they were suddenly out of stock everywhere and prices began to skyrocket. If this had launched 2 years ago it wouldn;t have done jack for AMDs competitive footing, if anything it could have made it worse with the mining craze. As long as it can price match a 1060 I don't think they'll have any issues with sales or competing with their own products.

Affordable products are never too late. Nothing needs to set the world ablaze, it just needs to be affordable. That is why most people drive boggy standard cars and not Ferraris.

If AMD do what they did with the 400 series and get the price right this will be good. If they come up with some LOLprice or price it too closely to Nvidia they won't convince any one and it won't sell.

Price, as always, is the most crucial part of this card. Not that it's a rehash, or boring because it doesn't do invisible RTX etc.

Not too many years ago you could get a card you could consider to be high end at the price of this.

But now there's this super expensive enthusiast segment you basically only need for 4k/1440p144 with max details.

Thing is, if this sits between 1060 and 1070 it's a cracking card with some settings tweaking at 1440p and 1080p is a breeze. Today's games don't look half bad on medium.
