Over the next 90 days EA will be shutting down 4 of it's FREE-TO-PLAY games, including Battlefield Free-To-Play and FIFA World. No refunds will be issued to those with unspent currency in their accounts and are not accepting any new accounts or payments in the affected games.

Have they no soul?

Still feel sad seeing Warhammer online being taken down.

Seriously, all Battlefield games and Crysis games?... wow, they're really killing it all, making you bend over and being like NVIDIA... "we do it cause...... well just cause we can "

So what, a dumb question here... but so I can't play online on Battlefield 2142 anymore?

Anyone remember that annoying voice in the old NHL games on Mega Drive? "If it's in the game it's not in the game... unless you pay us extra"

EA is like King Midas, except everything they touch turns into shit. :/

Missing features in NHL 2015

Missing features in the Sims 4

And I guess most people remember how EA axed city sizes and simulation in the last Sim City because who in their right mind would want to build a whole city in a city builder when they could just make a small neighbourhood instead? :O

Good business plan EA!

EA have 0 interest in games, they only care about money.
0 interest in games,0 interest in customers. Yes money is all they respect. I am fps gamer and i will not buy bf hardline or any new game from them until they start to listen their customers.

Sorry to break it to you but businesses are there to make money.. that's always there #1 rule.. make money. Otherwise businesses wouldn't exist. If they had 0 interest in games none would be funded by them to make games. Customer thing is all opinion and perspective so i won't bother arguing for that.

Plus why bash them for shutting down games that no one plays anymore? I don't see the point in them spending money on servers that hardly anyone ever played. I'd rather they put that money somewhere else.

I'm not sure if there are any, but doesn't people still play Crysis for example?...

Considering it's there servers i'm sure they have plenty.

Well after all, if it's their servers... they are free to do whatever they want to do, wether they have the data or not ^_^

As you said it yourself, it's all bussiness and not customer care really...

I can not agree with you. They dont care about games because past 10 years they are making unfinished products and marketise those half finished products as great fully functioned amazing games so deceived customers are spending hundreds of dollars on unfinished falsely marketised products just to see EA quit support for those only after few years. Also they turned off master servers for BF2 for example even that game at time of shutting down master servers had many active players. Same was with many other games like crysis etc. They only care about money and will listen customers only when customers stop buying those rushed unfinished expensive products from them. I for example will not buy bf hardline even i preordered premium bf3 and bf4 without thinking twice. Bf hardline have same bugs as those two(because its written on same engine with terrible netcode). Fool me once shame on me, fool me twice shame on you but if you fool me for the third time then i really should go make brain check.

I didn't say that. I said its business and it's pointless for them to spend money on servers that no one is using. That has nothing to do with customer care or service.

If you want to go hard on it then yes it is, since at the end of the day, people, like myself, did pay for all those games, ie Crysis, Crysis 2, Battlefield 2142 and now I can't any longer play either of them.
They're basically making you play newer games that THEY want you to play, by shutting down servers of games that they no longer want to support. And only keep the ones they want people to play alive... but what if I don't like those games?, what if I like the older ones more?... then there's nothing to play on.

You get my point here though, not trying to create an argument or anything here, just for the sake of clarity.

Technically when you think about it, you paid £30 for Crysis years back and that included multiplayer. if they remove multiplayer, they have removed part of the game that you legal own. I see what their plan is, but it is still heartless anyway.

All companies like EA, Ubi, etc are about money. Its the smaller companies who are making the games that have the passion of gaming and the care of the customer, but these guys have no say, when EA foot the bill and force them to release something not finished. (warhammer online, SIM city, Battlefield). EA have swallowed many companies and dissolved them like Maxis, Mythic, maybe Bioware?

Old games using servers is costly when you consider maintenance, upgrade, capacity and so on. Some are just not financially viable to keep going. Even if there are some that still use it, it would be far less than years back. Nothing lasts forever, eventually you need to move on to the next great game, or big project.

I'm sure when WOW drops blizz will shut it down, and when you add the cost up £1080 subs and £210 xpacs for 10 years play, Crysis £30 for 7 years isn't that bad a price and considering you can still play single player, wow is nothing once the servers go

I just checked and I can literally still buy Crysis in most local game shops. I'd be proper bummed if I spend €15 on a game, only to find out that it no longer works, and you cannot return it because keycodes.

Now, I do think games should have an expiry date when shops shouldn't sell them anymore (or at least for discount prices, but with no warranty as they might not work. That's for the buyer to do 5 minutes of research on prior to buying). So really is it EA's fault or shops that still sell old games?
